Anyone out there shooting the new Benelli Ultralite 12 guage? Weighing in at 6 lbs I was wondering about the recoil.

no have not shot this benelli yet, i looked it up on benelli sight on line. it looks to me like new twist on monte super 90, which i own two in 12ga, weight is 6 lbs. recoil is not a concern. love these guns. hope someone chims in on this ultralight that has fired one and has more info on this weapon.:)

I hunted 3 or 4 days last fall with a friends BUL. I was hooked from the 1st day I carried it in the field. The gun did not quite fit me ( I'm 6'4'') but I shot it well and it was a joy to carry in the field. Recoil was not any more than my Browning Super-Lite, both guns are 12 gauges.
I plan on buying one this summer.

Bot mine ~18 mos ago when they were brand new. Heard good things from a hard core grouser pal here in MI and guys on UJ. I got the 24" barrel cuz I use it as a late season, snotty weather gun plus a week in SoDak each year. I like the balance, its the most natural pointing 12 GA auto I've ever had my hands on. LUV the shim kit for any easy fit and the weathercoat finish. Havent had one bobble shooting all kinds of ammo.

And you'll never feel the recoil shooting at a rooster.;)

I won an Ultralite a year and a half a go, shot it a few times and sold it. I shot it with some 3" steel loads and felt the recoil was excessive. I also have owned a Montefeltro for over 10 years and for me the Monte was just a lot more comfortable to shoot. But then my Monte is kind of like an old pair of shoes. I also did not care for the raised rib on the UL but that is probably because I'm so accustom to shooting the Monte with a flat rib.

It's like most things. Everybody views things differently and someone might feel recoil more than the next guy. But I do think recoil, when shooting heavy loads through some of the light weight guns today, is something to take into consideration.

I agree 100% with what you said about recoil w/ 3" 12 GA loads. I've never shot mine with any 3" shells nor will I. Not surprising, at all, that recoil in a 6 pound fixed breech gun with a Interia recoil system would be judged "excessive". I have no idea why Benelli would put a 3" chamber in theh BUL.:rolleyes:

The BUL is not a goose gun, duck gun, target gun, deer gun, yote gun, turkey gun, etc etc etc. Its an upland bird gun, built purposely for carrying alot and shooting a few birds.

I LUV mine and know many other hard core bird hunters that do as well. Individual likes or dislikes as to features will vary.

Also, how many times do you need to shoot in order to kill three roosters.??? ;)

The laws of physics say that a light shotgun will have more felt recoil than a heavy shotgun. A 6lb shotgun shooting heavy magnums will definitely let you know your alive....:p

but to answer your question, yes it will have a bit of recoil, but how much recoil and how much will bother any one individual is anyone's guess. I will say that when hunting most of us don't feel recoil the same as if we were target shooting or at the pattern board.
 
A buddy of mine bought one with grouse hunting in mind and loves it. I've shot some grouse with it too and it sure is a nice gun. The recoil wasn't really noticeable shooting at game, but his 12ga was much lighter and therefore nicer to carry than my 870 20ga.
 
My father-in-law (age 56) has been using the same 870 Wingmaster to hunt pheasants in South Dakota every year for the past 40 years. This past September while hunting moose in Alaska he fell and tore his left rotator cuff, surgery and 3 months off work made for a long winter. For his birthday in February I bought him a new Benelli Ultralight. The difference in a 12 guage will be exactly 1 pound. He is right handed, so the weight, swinging, and pumping of the gun will rely on left shoulder strength. It should be very interesting to see if the weight difference overcomes the lifetime of physical, psychological, and emotional attachment to his old pump. If he does switch, I wonder how many years he will be pumping that Benelli.
 
My wife is the proud owner of a 12 ga. Ultralite, stock resized and a better recoil pad. She loves it, the recoil is tame, and she handles pheasant loads just fine. I don't get to spend that kind of money, my guns are a Lanber and a CZ.
 
I bought the Benelli Ultralight with 28" barrel 18 months ago. Last fall was the first hunting season with it. I absolutely love it for grouse and pheasants, which is the kind of hunting it is intended for. It points naturally and feels slim in the hand. Shooting 50-100 rounds of target loads on the trap range is not a problem, either, as far as recoil goes. The gun does not kick as much as physics would lead you to expect.

As with any factory shotgun I had to increase the length of pull to fit me. It was a little harder on this shotgun. Here is how I did it:
