Beeper vs Squawker

maybe this has been discussed before..

I havent gotten a collar with a beeper or a Squawker.

My breeder that I gotten my GSP from has a Tri-Tronic Squawker. he finds it more effective to find in windy days and a hawk squawk would keep the pheasant down opposed to a beeper bc pheasants hide from hawks all the time and knows the sound of a hawk.

I never had to do this with my GSP bc hes so large and never really had him go to far ahead of me or he would come back and find me.

However, i do want my new GSP to be used to this. has any one experienced this collar with beeper or Squawker?

I don't have either. What I do have is a RoamEO GPS. It tells me where the dog is when he is on point or anytime I want to know which way he is working. In some of the CRP here the weeds are too tall to see the dog. I also have hills, if he goes over a hill. When I get to the top, I can find where he is in the field below me...........Bob

I have found that if you don't need to use it don't. It works well early season if you are able to turn the volume down a bit. When you have it too loud it blows the birds out, not many birds are going to sit with a screaming hawk only feet from them. Later in the year when the cover has laid over and the birds are wiser I see no need for it. I have not ran one in three years and have seen a lot better results without it but who know three years equates to a lot more experience for the dog too so maybe it really doesn't matter.

Huntin4fun. I'll agree with you. That is the main reason I went to the GPS. I can find my dog and not make any noise while I'm doing it..........Bob

Yeah Bob as we all know all too well these birds are wise and the more clues we give them that we are afield the more we shoot ourselves in the foot so to speak. I really think there is no need for them and I really like your gps deal too. Does it work pretty well for you, I know that you run brittanys and at times they can be hard to see in the taller stuff. I think I may invest in one for my darker GSP since she is hard to see at times too.

Huntin, I like it real well, so far only 1 season, I have had no problems. When I got it the Unit the neck collar was broke. I called and they exchanged it just a few days. Very good people to work with. I don't know where you live, but they are in White Bear, Minnesota.................Bob
