Backup guns

What's everyone take out of state for a backup? In the past I've taken one of my o/u's but I get more and more uncomfortable leaving it in the truck or motel room. I'm considering buying something like a reasonably priced 12-gauge pump. Something I wouldn't cry about losing, but also wouldn't mind carrying.

Learned my lesson 4 days ago, drove two hours to hunt with my dad and third shot of the day with the trusty a5 the spring around the shell tube gave way. Pisses me off because I have plenty of backups but they were all in the safe. We made the best of it and handed his gun to the other after a miss, and I got to take lots of pictures and videos but it was a day and property with a lot of opportunities… live and learn!

Never leave home without a backup. Use semi-autos and o/u, mix and match. Also worry about theft so usually carry with me in the truck and into room.

I always have a back up shotgun when I go hunting. A good friend was pheasant hunting with his relatives in North Dakota, his nephew's 870 Express 20 ga broke a firing pin.He loaned his nephew his back up shotgun so he could keep on hunting.

Good post Birddude , I always carry a back up to . Generally shoot my 20 ga sxs and back it up with My Benelli M-2 20 ga , if I go 12 ga it’s my Ruger Gold sxs and a 12 ga M-2

I was on a hunt in Neb with Miforester and my M-2 slipped over while I was crossing a fence or gate and got a bunch of sand in the action I was close to the truck so grabbed the sxs 20 and good to go

Dang, too bad. You talking about the recoil spring? If so, I never heard of one breaking. But I bet you can still find one.

I got three 12 gauges, 3 twenty gauges and two 16 gauges. Always bring an extra one alone for back up. I've never had to use a back up but I've lent one out a few times with other people in our group who have had issues in the field and didn't have a back up.
