Thinking about gett'n a new back up gun for rainy days and a few days of waterfowling every year. Mainly for pheasants on nasty days and walking in cattails. Probably a light auto 12. Thinking a Beretta or Remington. I haven't paid any attention to autos for years any recommendations.

Price range?

You can start with the 935 Mossberg, then the Remington 1187/Stoeger 2000, M2/391/gold-silver/vinci, Maxus/Xtrema/SBEII/A400.

For a Pheasant gun I would lean to the 391 Beretta myself. Soft recoil, reliable, long lasting, Med price range.

That would be my choice in a gun that will shoot non toxic shot and is geared for the future of hunting.

If you want to save a few bucks look at the Stoeger 2000. I bought one several years ago as a backup to my Montefeltro. I got the camo pattern so it's also my turkey gun. It's been a great gun for basically the same purpose you are looking for.

Check into the Browning Silver Hunter series. They are a fine gun give them a look the price may surprise you.........Bob

I use a Browning A12, not light but it points with the best of them. Holds 5 so it comes in handy when they are grouped up. Can pick up a good one for around 400 to 600 bucks now days.
