Genetically they are the same dog, the difference is what stud book their parents come from. The German(Kurzhaar) breeding standards are more defined and have been rigidly maintained going way back, keeping a more uniform standard. The same principle applies to the Deutsch Drathhaar / German Wirehair not really any different from British vs American labs. Just different focus(es) for the breeders.
