All Amped Up!

I would like to get out west but it is tough. No vacation days to use since I'm in the school system. I did try to go to SD over Christmas break. Planned to leave Christmas night but a snow storm kind of shut the roads down for a few days so we didn't go. I'm trying to figure something out to get out there but it is tough with the kids and everything. Maybe I'll try to give MN a try since it will be a little closer. Oh well, I can hunt PA birds and do the flushing survey for my wild bird fix.

Brian,

The wild pheasant hunting in Pa. is a huge undertaking, most would think it not being worth the effort, myself not being one of them.

But Grouse hunting can be excellent! Sections of Pa. are as good as any state. Flush rates in Potter County take the back seat to no one. You might want to start thinking about trips in-state to some of these areas. I spend a lot of time in Bradford County and don't by any means concentrate on grouse, but the hunting is still decent.

I can understand the problem with your work and vacation, that stinks, but your dogs are sure getting a lot of bird work here in Pa.!

ND trip going well

Limited out first two days but we're working for em. Light snow cover today and it was awesome seeing flocks of pheasants.

Way to go! Don't forget you boys are representing Pa.! Take a lot of pictures and be safe.

Two of us got five in an hour today. Love hunting wild pheasants. I drive 1500 miles to hunt wild birds. I would be happy if I drove an hour or two to get one.

Flush rates of ruffed grouse in the central Apps. can be as good as some portions and years in the upper great lakes but the central Apps does not have the conditions that will withstand hunters flocking in to or failing to consider additivity. As proven by the decline in areas of the Apps. once having ruffed grouse populations as good as or better than NC Pa. or the UGLs now.
Granted, terrain and snow is a blessed grouse hunter limiter in many portions of Pa but...advisable not to equate a bird like the ruffed grouse and it's hunting vs. the pheasant re long-term.
Each are as different as a duck is to a basketball in some ways.
Hunt by all means but be judicious in the affect you will carry.

Well...how about 3 -4 hours for you!

PM sent.

We're almost there! I think you'll make it, FLDBRED. Good luck to everybody and hopefully we can get some good pictures up.

I made it, but what a long day it was! Now it's time for what we wait for all year.

Good luck to everyone and be safe!
