When we hadn't gotten much snow (2-3 inches) by late yesterday I was hoping the storm might miss us. So much for that thought. The snow and wind blew in last night and it hasn't let up. Not sure how much snow we've gotten but it's sure piling up in drifts. Hard to measure when it's coming down horizontally. Winds right now are 30 mph, gusting to 40. Poor pheasants are really going to catch heck in this one.

I just took these two pics out the window. One of the drift behind my garage and the other the path I shoveled out the patio door on the deck so the dogs could get out.

George, I know how that snow is. We had it here last year and boy it did a number on our Pheasants. We didn't have many to begin with and this season we didn't many around here at all. With all the snow back there, I know it is not a Merry Christmas for the Midwest..........Bob

I thought it would get bad there. I had a pheasant hunt lined up for the Roscoe area. I'm thinking it may be canceled.
Coming home (Beatrice) Christmas Eve night from the family get together, North bound was pretty much a white out and it didn't let up at all Christmas Day. Not much wind this morning but still spitting some snow.

Looks like the type of snow that may be drifting in the small patches of cover. According to the snow cover maps areas in South Dakota vary from a trace to 20+ inches. Any info on snow depths?

we got hammered here in nw missouri also.
what few birds we had are in big trouble.
6-12 inches of snow and 20-30mph winds causing big drifts.
wind is calmer today but still snowing.
I am too darned tired from shoveling me and elderly neighbors out to go hunting anyway.
everyone be safe and don't get out unless you have to.

Sioux Falls area. Drifts to 5ft. The road infront of my house is rather clear. Snow did not drift as badly as thought because it warmed up to low thirties and was wet. It took me about ten minutes to walk50 yards to the dog house and two of five kennels will take a lot of work to clear out. The dogs had fun in the snow. Sounds like the wind is coming up again. Interstate 90 and 29 still closed.
I saw one hen fly from the creek bottom to the neighbors grove. They will all end up in the grove and cattle yard I suspect. The birds in some areas will find bean fields that blew off, the rest will be in the trees and farmyards.
Unless you want to gang up on the groves, hunting will be very tough.
