A new era begins..pheasant chick delivery!

That's a couple of great videos! You can detect a bit of sadness in the voices, they have been doing it differently for over 100 years. But at least it looks like the future is bright!

About 2 weeks ago I picked up 250 day old chicks. As of now I have 248 and things are going well. We got the birds from Martz's this year since the PGC is no longer doing the chick program.

I know it's to early to tell now, but it'll be interesting to compare those birds to the PGC birds!

So far the chicks seem to be less aggressive towards each other and like to fly a little more. We'll see how it goes this year but so far so good.

Things are still going well with over 240 birds getting blinders put on this past Saturday morning.

Have you noticed any difference in these birds compared to the State birds?

The birds I got are Kansas Blueback pheasants which are supposed to be stronger flyers than the strain the PGC uses. These birds are smaller compared to the birds we used to get. I'll let you know this fall if I notice any differences.
