A little Christmas Tail

Finally made it out again with my son, hockey season keeps him from the field. We seen about 25-30 birds with about 20 being roosters.

Dewey:

A great day - out with your son and a couple roosters as a bonus. It wouldn't hurt the two of you to smile? Would it? I would be grinning ear to ear!

It was a great day! Hard to smile after plowing through butt deep snow for 4 hours, plus we don't have that many teeth up this way! Lol! Today didn't pan as well, good dog work but the guys in orange were still feeling yesterday's hunt.
Ranger Rick do you guys have good hunting over that way? I have an aunt that lives in Athens, haven't been out that way in years.

cool looking hunt. Bet those birds were tight in that snow?

The ones we got held tight plus a hand full more, if the dog didn't stick his nose in there they'd just let us walk by. One we shot on a walk back to the truck that must have held when we shot at another and moved the dog forward. The dog has grabbed 2 in the last week, but then we have the ones that are busting out the ends of cover 40-60 yards in front of us. They've been in the thick edges of small wood lots. Think one more hunt for us on Saturday before the end of the season.

Dewey: There may be a few random pheasant around, but not many. East of Wausau there have been attempts at establishing wild populations and I know there's a little hunting going on. I've hunted pheasants west of Wausau, but on lands adjacent to local pheasant hunt club's releases. There aren't wild birds there, but knowing the right landowner can get into some birds that didn't respect the boundaries of the properties where they were released. One such property was sold and I no longer have permission to hunt there, so I haven't in a few years. I'm glad to see you've got some hunting over your way. I hunt grouse and woodcock north into Langlade, Lincoln and Vilas Counties.
