a high of 16 sounds like a good day to be out.

Been a few years since I've been able to break out the snowshoes for pheasants but I'd love to have snow deep enough for that.

We only have around 5 or 6 inches how much do you have?

About that much, but in the tall grass it seems like a lot more. Plus, where we hunted there was a lot of drifting.

Sounds like some accumulation possible on Thursday. As long as it stays snow and not rain, you may get to break out those shoes.

Seems like forever, but we finally bagged one today. Was a great day to be out, but the wind was a little strong. Tomorrow should be even better.

I admit, this is the most snow I have ever hunted in. Past years, once snowmobiling came along, I was done hunting.

It was a learning experience for both me and the dog. Watching a running bird disappear into a hole in the snow was crazy. Not sure if that was the one we got, but we worked for it and my dog did a great retrieve. Was my first official "snow bird".

We are going back tomorrow. Hopefully it isn't too warm!

Good luck tomorrow and congrats on your first snow bird! I'm jealous but I will have an opportunity to squeeze in 2 hours Thursday morning before work.

Thanks. With the holidays falling mid week, I am hoping to use that time off to get out as much as I can before the season closes.

Not sure if it was the warmer temps, less wind, or the snow being heavier, but the birds were sitting tight today! My streak of missing continued for 2 birds, but we kept on it and were able to find another 2 that I put down. One I almost left because I thought the dog was on a rabbit. He stalked a fence line for a couple hundred yards and it let to a huge brush pile. He pointed at it for a bit and then crept on it. I walked around and jumped on it, but nothing. I toned the collar to get him to leave with me, but he wouldn't have it. He repositioned so I went back over there and again stepped on the pile, and out came a rooster. The lesson I am learning is to trust the dog. First pointer I have ever had and I need to just let him work.

As were were leaving he got birdy and went into stalk mode. He crept across the road right before I got there and went on point on the other side. I looked and saw 6 roosters walking along. Not only did I have my limit, but the landowner is a big pheasant hunter so he doesn't allow anyone else in there. Was kind of cool watching the dog work though. The birds all split up and ran all different directions. I let him run around and point for a while before calling him out.

Not a whole lot out there right now but I was able to squeeze out 1 bird today in my 2 hour trip before going to work.

This bird had the biggest spurs I've ever taken, they were just in between 3/4 and 7/8 inches.

I was able to get up 2 hens today as well.
