Is a upland preserve just as fun as a wild duck hunt? Is it better than not having upland hunting in your state at all, so atleast you have a preserve to go too?
Well, there are a couple loaded questions! Should be some interesting responses.
Sure a preserve hunt (done well) is better than no upland hunting. That's a no-brainer. Even a mediocre preserve hunt is better than no upland hunting.
More "fun" than a wild duck hunt? Apples and oranges, tough to compare. I guess I would probably take the duck hunt, assuming there were any ducks flying. If it was one of those days when you stare at a lot of empty sky and throw dummies to keep your dog awake, then I would take the preserve hands down.
I've been on a few really incredible waterfowl hunts. There are a few of those memories I wouldn't trade for anything.
I'm personally not one for preserve hunting. The dogs pick up on the birds too easily and birds tend to fly like tanks. For me, it's just not all that much fun.
With that said, I know a lot(!) of people who get a real kick out of hunting preserves and I'm thankful they are around:thumbsup: They serve as a great outlet for those that don't have wild pheasants to hunt.
I think if I'd have a choice I'd choose wild duck hunting over hunting a preserve. Of course, if I can hunt wild pheasants, that wins the day:cheers:
