2024 Upland Season

I found a lot of them in fire brush, tree lines, and cattails on Friday. No thin cover left so they congregate in the adjacent thick stuff.

Doing stuff at the deer property, that land is flat. Brought the pup with to hunt a few random pieces of public on the way home. Wonder what the birds do in that situation?

I seem to recall this occuring a fear years ago too. An early October front that produced heavy, wet snow and all the weight knocked down grassland with a lot of season left. MNMEAD is probably right, they have to go somewhere. My guess they just go wherever they can, which at this point would be thicker cover or in my specific case, standing corn.

I will say that all the flat-looking terrain now makes it A LOT easier to spot a deer, so at least there's that. There was still snow on the landscape too which make them stand out like a sore thumb, but that is going to be gone soon with the rain and warmer temps.

I was in the SW corner of the state Friday and it looked like they'd had more of an ice storm than snow. It was anywhere from 2-8" thick and crusty. I wasn't thinking and the poor dog got her paws torn up pretty good on the walk we did before it softened up. All the spots I'd been the week prior with switchgrass or any thinner grasses were flattened. I am sure now that the snow is gone it looks different again.

I'm not sure how far west/southwest it started, but from the northwest metro to St Cloud and then eastward was where the heaviest snow bands fell. If you follow highway 23 that's kind of where I think it was?

I be taking my annual trip to slayton/ lake wilson are in the southwest Any knowledge of how cover was affected in that specific area?

Yep it got ice. Birds are still there, just may need to look at your cover closer before you waste 2 hours tromping around.

Exactly what I was thinking, my main stand in particular it gives me about 100% more visibility and way more shot opportunities. Shall see how it plays out

Be interesting to see how it looks when I get back out there this weekend

Meeker county by the way
