Thought I'd get the party started with the season just starting. Feel free to share your hunting reports here - good or bad. Good luck to all!

Warm and dry but hopefully all had some good, safe hunts this weekend.

I got into 4 hens yesterday. Of course I spotted a big mature bird in the ditch on the way 🫠

Very short hunt today but we got this nice bird. 19 and 1/2" tail feathers.

Yep, tried it out for the first time. Gave it a little olive oil glaze, put some seasoning on it and threw it in the oven at 350 until it was 165. Was delicious, nice and moist.

Went out Saturday and Sunday for WI opener.....warm and dry. Did not hunt long each day. Alot of hunters in the Northern Kettle Moraine area.
Missed 1 bird Sunday in the sun.....that's my story anyways! 😎

Went today after work, much cooler temps and a good north breeze.
1 for 1 today.

Got out yesterday evening and this morning. Running young dogs, yesterday had 5 finds, last one was 6 or 8 birds. This morning using a different gun and dog, missed the first 2 birds, then got on track - used 6 shells for 2 birds! Dog did nice after settling in, the first find she broke and chased for what seemed like an hour. Seen a goose hunter drop one from way up there, seemed like it took 5 minutes to hit the water! Up in the north woods this afternoon, had maybe 4 or 5 grouse finds, kind of disappointing. Going to hit the woods again in the morning.

Pen raised pheasants have the blinders attached through the nostrils which creates large nostril openings. The blinders are taken off before release and don't grow back close.
Wild birds have a thin, slit nostril opening.
This bird had large nostril openings, indicating it was pen raised and released.

I've shot at one bird, today I was first in the field then was followed by 5 guys waiting for me to flush them. A woman I know saw 6 trucks, guys wearing orange following the chicken truck from Poynette into Lodi. Basically it's been miserable.

Jeez, I never understood hunters wanting the easy way out like that. It’s a beautiful day today - enjoy it instead of trying to get out of it asap!

I went out to two spots mid day here. Completely new spots that looked great. Saw a couple others trucks and heard a couple shots from a 3 person group with a lab, but the dog and me didn’t see a feather.

I'm heading to a different spot next time out.
Lodi was done last week after I heard about the pluckers. I was in Poynette today, guess I'm off to Portage next time. It's getting as bad as duck hunting. Two things I enjoy are getting my goat.
I'll try and have a better outlook, but it's been tough lately.

Good luck to you! We’re on opposite ends of the state. I went to school in Madison but never hunted around there. Do you find wild birds around or is it mostly stocked?

I’m deer hunting now, but of course on my drive here, I spot a rooster off of public land. I try and find him quickly but he must’ve taken off.
