2014 Deer Season!

We had a great time at camp. We both harvested nice bucks!

They were both harvested on opening day, it is a cool feeling when you can reap the rewards of all your hard work! Flushed two roosters dragging my deer out and saw a few grouse as well!

Hey Guys, I think we should all take a deep breath and remind ourselves how lucky we are to have the hunting we do here in Pa.. After chasing Ringnecks, Grouse, and Woodcocks for weeks and having great action all season, then to go to "Pheasant Camp" and be able to see racked bucks, well I think you know where I am going.
I heard Hollow shoot around 7:05 on opening morning, he likes to hunt close to our field to hear the roosters cackle that the farmer releases, he knows how we love them birds.
I shot my buck opening day around 1:30. The best part for me is knowing that I'm leaving the "IRISH RANGERS" tradition in good hands!

What a great season so far!

I also flushed a few grouse.

How did everybody else do?

Very nice guys!:thumbsup: Do you guys ever get skunked? lol.

We saw a lot of does and my uncle got a nice 7pt. on our new property. We need to do some habitat work to draw more deer, it should be a lot of fun!

Nice work on the deer. It has been a good season for both of you.

I saw about 9 doe and 4 buck. The first 3 buck were too small to take. I had a nice 6 point walking up behind me and was 40 feet away. I was waiting for him to walk past so I didn't have to make a 180 degree turn and scare him off. Then some other guy tries to shoot over 100 yards through the trees and scares him off. Somebody else shot at the same buck while he was in another field and missed. I saw one more doe after that. Around 3:30 it got windy and I decided to get out of my stand and go home. Wise choice because that's when the rain started.

I have plenty in the freezer and won't be going back out. I was planning to donate my deer to the local food bank through hunters sharing the harvest but I think I'll just take it easy now. But I could change my mind sometime. Good luck to those who are still going out.

Brian,

I hear you about the full freezer with all the birds you've taken there's no room for venison! :)

Can you hunt deer on your property?

PaRooster,

Thanks!
Nice that you guys could take a buck off your new property the first year. And yes we do get skunked!:D Sometimes it may look easy in a Post, but some of those bird hunt took hours to get a bird!

The freezer is full because we just had a hog butchered and we had a side of beef done in the past.

I can go to my property but I was hunting down at the club I belong to. It is a lot closer to home and doe season is 2 weeks. The property I own has 1 week of doe.

The weather wasn't too good today. I didn't hear any shooting in the morning while getting ready for work.

Thanks FLDBRED

We're pretty excited about the future, we heard very little shooting and found out that some of the properties that border ours don't even get hunted.

Hey Guys,

I had some good luck this morning! I changed my stand to be closer to an old apple orchard, and around 7:30 six does came by followed by a nice FAT six point that I dropped from about 75 yards. While I was cleaning him a nice 8 point walked by. Already thinking of next year!

Congrats on the nice bucks. I saw a four point yesterday but couldn't put a brow tine on him. Hoping Saturday offers some opportunities. Waiting patiently for the late bird season. While I'm setting in a tree stand, I'm wishing most of the time that I was out with my dog bird hunting instead :)

Hey Stranger,

Were you hunting at your pheasant paradise? I hear you about the deer season, it used to be what we waited for, not so much anymore!
How did it go in Montana?

Good luck on Saturday!

I hunted the first morning there just to see how it would go. Only saw one deer. It's not a great deer spot but I didn't get it for that :)

Montana went pretty well. Pheasant numbers are coming up but they are not what they were four years ago. They have lost a good amount of CRP but there is still a lot of grass where we hunt. I only limited on pheasants one of the four days we hunted. I typically saw a few hundred birds every day but they are wild and flush a couple hundred yards away. Every once in a while, one sticks and you get one. I was using my new Browning 20 gauge O/U. You would have been proud of me, I was shooting really well. I was feeling really cocky until I missed a bird last Wednesday in the snow 2 shots. I think I had snow on the barrel though :) I also shot the Montana trifecta this trip. I got 3 sharptails and one Hungarian partridge along with the pheasants. I also managed to get four green-wing teal with three shots! I'm really likin the 20 gauge.:)

Hey...maybe I should get a 20 gauge!:) Sounds like you had a great trip, you deserve it.
I hope all the issues with the PPL get straightened out.

Good luck Saturday.

Sounds like a nice trip. What kind of Browning did you get? I have a Citori White Lightning that I love. It is a 20 as well.

Sounds like an awesome hunt and time you had in Montana!

I'm glad to see a bunch of guys shoot 20's. I have been toying with the thought of getting a new 20ga and was looking at some today.
