I tend to stick to areas where deer hunters are less likely to be and places where I can see and be seen. I check with my landowner connections to make sure I don't screw anyone else up on private land that I have permission to hunt. Regular firearms deer hunters only have a couple of weeks...
It has been slow to warm up but we have had regular rain and no big snowstorms. Williston was on the dry side and I see they got recent rain also. Things are greening up nicely. There seems to be a decent number of birds around.
I have mot patterned the ones in my 20 but they did seem to perform well. I have a set of non-ported for my 12 ga 725 Feather and they did pattern better than the factory tubes.
I got the same gun a year ago. I used 2 3/4" Federal Premium 1oz 5's. They did good for me. Later in the season I put Federal blue box 3" 5's in the second barrel. They did well also. I run Briley ported chokes in light modified and improved modified.
What a tragic situation.
About 15 years ago I hunted with a guy who had a Lab with all kinds of titles. That dog did not retrieve without using the e collar. I will take my imperfect dogs that are out there enjoying themselves over that any day of the week.
I have just done a version of Fajitas. Just put the Pheasant breast, onions, peppers, and fajita seasoning in a crock pot. The meat will just shred and put it on tortillas with cheese, sour cream, salsa, and whatever else you like.
I moved away from MN to ND about 19 years ago. When did MN go to allowing only 3 shells in a gun for upland hunting? A friend of mine there did not know this. I noticed it a couple of years ago when I had license for all season and thought about trying for Pheasants when I was around at...
The first couple of weeks were great and showed a lot of promise, lots of young birds. Things never did seem to recover after that snowstorm on Oct 23? (13" or so). I think we may have lost some birds in that storm. I seemed to have shot a higher proportion of old birds afterward. They did...
A 725 Feather. Got the 12 ga version 6 years ago. About 3 years ago I decided to add a 20. I have had my eye out for one and finally got one through Gunbroker. The 12 will probably come out for late season.
After a few years of looking I picked up a 20. It is time to start picking up some shells. While there is stuff on the shelf it still seems to be a take what you can get situation, Any recommendations? How do 2 and 3/4" work?
6 years ago I bought a 725 Feather 12ga and fell in love with it. A few years ago, I decided to add another in 20ga. Post Covid, I finally got one through Gunbroker a few weeks ago. It felts great in my hands. Now to get some 20 ga loads.
I think that the westward spread of soybeans may have helped them get through the winter. There is almost no stubble on those fields so they have tended to open up a little sooner and allow access to some food.
I have been out of town a few times now and there are birds out there. Some hilltops are opening up in bean fields. I am at least somewhat optimistic although the long term forecast for next month doesn't look quite as good.
