    Bug Bites

I ended up at the doctors office and he thought bites. It was odd new ones kept popping up for several days so he did have me delouse with a pesticide ointment. Didn't start healing until week 2 but now gone. My guess is chiggers or something like it in the one field with tall weeds.

    Bug Bites

Ill take anything over bed bugs. But Ive never had an allergy in my life and Im pretty sure these are bug bites. I think I got into something in one field. I was surrounded by tall fox tail looking weeds over my head and I was pushing hard. Birds were popping all over me and I was shooting and...

    Bug Bites

I hunted this past weekend in west central Iowa. It got into the 70s on Fri and 60s on Sat. I am finding bug bites from head to toe. They started popping up yesterday. I was afraid of bed bugs in the cheap motel I stayed however my wife slept next to me 2 nights in a row and she has nothing...

Can anyone provide me with a motel referral in NW that allows dogs??

Just look for a Super 8. They all take dogs. The one in Spirit lake had 5 cars in the lot when we stayed there two weekends ago. Basically empty.

South Dakota Pheasant Hunting Is Changing, Or Has Changed

I assume like other states, access is the driving factor. Access to good hunting ground is not getting easier. Its getting harder.

    Ground-pounding opinions

If you can aim for and hit mostly the head I would say its a good option for eating and dispatching the bird. Assuming its safe. I hunt with dogs so I normally don't have the option. I think I took my first one two years ago. Pheasants are damn hard to come up on in that position. Grouse on...

Old dogs still want to retrieve

There's a good chance Im taking my 14 yo Pudelpointer out this weekend. It will be light duty but I would LOVE to see her point one last time. She was actually the best bird retriever I have ever owned. Land and sea. My 5 yo Golden wont fetch birds anymore. Not sure if one hurt her or what...

    Heat

That heat kept me out of the Grouse woods. I hunted opening weekend in shorts at times. Skipped two more hot weekends and finally hunting good temps this weekend.

Grass Awn's - DEADLY for your dog

Im not sure if it was a grass awn or porcupine quill that traveled through my dogs body and existed her rear side. She was exposed to both. It took the university of Minnesota and over $5K to save her. She's made 15 years so that incident did not affect her longevity.

Legs with feet and breasts with wings. The numbers add up and CO have seen them before.

    Golden retriever

Each hunting season I look at my Goldens long hair as their armor. Especially the tail. If things get too bad I snip instead of brush. Ive had some junk yard looking, rat tailed Goldens by season end many times. They look funny and my wife hates it but they grow it back fast and I try to limit...

    Meat handling while traveling

We field dress periodically during the day if warm. End of day if its cool. Transport breasts with a wing attached and legs with foot. We don't do whole carcasses. When I get home I filet the meat off the breast and thigh then vacuum and freeze flat.

Cooking Own Meals at the Motel

When I had less money we would cook at the motel. Crock pot usually. Now I would only do that if there was no place to eat within 20 miles.
