    Golden retriever hair/fur product

I use Mane ‘n Tail Detangler on my Brittany. It makes the burrs and the “stick tights” easier to remove with a brush. It is not a fail safe solution. But it does assist in remove the items tangled in the fur.

Dog skid plate vest that prevents chafing - recommendations?

I tried three different "skid-plates" (Cabela's, Cuga and Sylmar) and they all chaffed my dog's armpits and the inside of their forearms. The solution that works for my dogs is wearing a toddler long-sleeve t-shirts under the “skid-plate” as Wind River recommended. I buy 7 to 10 t-shirts per...

    Hotels in Huron

What hotels do you recommend in Huron, SD? I have been traveling to Huron for 20 years and stayed at Dakota Inn for the first 10 years and stayed at the Best Western for the past 10 years. After the Best Western changed ownership a few years ago, the management has been less responsive in...

    Track and Train Collar Thoughts

I upgraded to an Alpha 200i last year from a Tri-Tronics 200 lite and an Astro 220. Most of the time, I used the Alpha 200i and my old Astro 220 for distance and direction of my dogs and my truck. When I hunt new fields, I do utilize the map feature to understand my location related to the...

    French Brittany Thoughts?

Good luck on your decision. Follow-up to my earlier post. This is my EB retrieving a couple pheasants after working heavy cattails. These cattail areas had deer paths already cut into the cattails. He would follow these paths until he found scent. Then, he would work his way through the...

    French Brittany Thoughts?

I am not an expert. Like all breeds, there are some genetic issues with all breeds. From the CEB-US website, “Hip dysplasia and the Ay (sable coat) gene are two hot button issues concerning the Epagneul Breton in the US, but they are certainly not the only concerns facing ethical breeders.” I...

    French Brittany Thoughts?

I have owned 5 American Brittany since 1991 and picked up my first French Brittany in 2018. Both breeds have similar traits regarding training, handling in the field and around the house. All my brittany were full of energy in the house until they were close to 4 years old. If you worked their...

    RIP Gus

Today, my wife and I said goodbye to our Gus at only 12 years old. Cognitive issues were getting worse, and we did not want to see him suffer anymore. Yesterday, we were able to celebrate his birthday and his life before heading to the rainbow bridge. Everyone who has been lucky enough to have a...

Looking for a new bird dog

Also research Epagneul Breton (French Brittany). I owned American Brittany's for 30 years and loved their personality in the home and their energy in the field. Unfortunately, the breeder I have adopted all my American Brittany's passed away and I had to look for a new breeder. About 3 years...

    Final Rise Upland Vest

I have seen the WingWorks in person and talked to a few people who swear by them for comfort and long walks in the fields. As for Final Rise, it appears the company is still new and developing a hunter fan base. I agree it is a knock off of WingWorks. Thank you for your time and comments.

    Final Rise Upland Vest

Good morning Munster927....Thank you for your suggestions. Yes, I have a low quality strap vest along with a Gamehide hunting vest. I have been using them for 20 plus years. Both vests do what I need it to do…carry shells, water, first aid kit, etc. However, as I get older, the strain on my...

    Final Rise Upland Vest

Does anyone have comments or opinions on the Final Rise Upland vest? Looking for someone who has actually used this vest in the field. Final Rise seems to be a new company in this market. I have been looking at the Wing Works but they are temporarily closed until they build up their inventory...

    fell through the ice

That has always been my concern. One year while working a ice covered pond with cattails around the perimeter, a rooster flush from the cattails and flew over the ice covered pond. I waited for the bird to clear the pond before dropping the bird. I never thought about my dog crossing the pond...

    2020 Report

back in the '90's and early 2000's, I hunted just outside Kentland along one of the drainage ditches a friend of mine owned. We use to be able to get our limited along that mile long ditch. Unfortunately, the farms around that area cleaned up the farmland, took out fence rows, and planted...

Question about my now deaf dog...

I have a 14 year brittany who's hearing has diminished over the past couple years. I always run my dogs with a Garmin GPS to ensure I know their location at any time. When I hunt heavy cattails with 2 dogs, it is very helpful to understand if they are still close. A quick glance at the Garmin...

    Ducks Unlimited areas

I have noticed additional areas on South Dakota's Public Hunting on-line map that are marked as "Ducks Unlimited". When I click on these areas the comments are either "Driving on harvested fields allowed for waterfowl decoy placement and disabled hunter permit holders" or "No restrictions"...

Looking for a Pointing Dog Trainer in the Midwest

Looking for a pointing dog trainer for my Brittany. I live in Indiana and looking for a trainer in the Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee area. The trainer that I have used for nearly 30 years has retired. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
