If you've got RCG, best I can tell ya is spray, burn, rinse and repeat.

    Food plots

We plant a mix, mainly sorghum, but with sunflowers and millet at a lower rate on 15 inch rows. We've found that 15 inch rows can be easier to walk thru, while providing more of a canopy than typical 30 inch rows. The sunflowers and millet make it a little more covered in the late summer and...

How is everyone's spring habitat projects going?

Yessir. We usually put a coat of gly and atrazine on around mid April here in central pa. A good 2 weeks before the switch wakes up.

Reeds Canary Grass to Switchgrass Project

This is late so you might have figured this out already, but switch can lay in the seed bed for years. Similar to clover. You should be fine. It just is nice to get it to germ early so it can have a chance against the weeds.

How is everyone's spring habitat projects going?

Pretty good. 3rd year of spraying cool seasons out of our 20 acres of switch. Tons of milkweed coming in per usual. Having some canada thistle that we're going to spot spray. Want to leave as much milkweed as possible. Corn food plots are in, but they germinated and sat for 2 weeks with no rain...

Northern MO Turkey Hunts For Sale

Hey y'all, its winter so I figured now is a good time to get this out here. My dad owns a property in Northern Missouri just northwest of Kirksville. 341 acres of ag and mixed timber. He's looking to sell some turkey hunts on it. There is a cabin with heat, electricity, and running water. He's...

leader in habit and quail success

I'm not much of a farmer so correct me if I'm wrong. But I definitely agree that cattle or any grazing species for that matter, just so happens cattle are prevalent and make some money (on good years), are essential for bobwhites. However the stocking density has to be just right. Too many for...

leader in habit and quail success

That's great to hear! My family owns a pretty large property just northwest of Kirksville along the Chariton River. We see some occasionally. In spring turkey season this year we heard a few. We have been approved for a forest management plan, major thinning and burning of the understory. Should...

When you find the recipe, let me know. I'm all in.

Upland bird population will never fully rebound.

I agree that more acres should be opened up to public hunting. However, if a landowner decides he or she wants to drop 700 grand on a piece of property then they should be able to do whatever the hell they want with it. PF is "The Habitat Organization" so it doesn't bother me much that they...

    MIX Challenge

Hi all, possible that I'm reading this 7 years late but this is an outstanding idea. Not sure how the logistics would work out, but if it's possible then you can sign me up for a $25 game bird stamp.

    Land Acquisition and Conservation Easements

Has anybody here ever had any experience with conservation easements? Looking to buy a parcel when I'm out of college and am trying to make it as affordable as possible. Land prices in PA are wild. Lots of people and they're not making any more land. Low supply high demand, you do the math.

    Wild Pheasants in Centre County?

In previous threads I have talked about having a handful of pheasants around our farm in the past few years. With added effort from participating landowners, I think we could have something truly special. Cutting down to the nitty gritty here... Would anyone be willing to assist with some...
