Stock fitting in Minnesota or Wisconsin

If you are just looking to re-shim your gun just do it, it really is simple if you follow the instructions. But if you want your stock bent or shortened that is a entirely different animal. I hate to say it but if the gun fits that poorly I likely would sell it

    Hunting solo tactics

I'm pretty sure both these techniques work great on the internet, but not so much in real life!

    cold to warm weather gear

I almost always end up over dressed, except for my hands. A good neck gaiter is more important to me than my boots.

    License check. Is this legal?

Inside or outside the law, I don't know? I wouldn't give it a second thought as it seemed like a pretty minor inconvenience.

    Needing another lab!!!

Are you referring to the Ty/Greta litter? I wanted a pup from this litter in the worst way but I have a 3 dogs at a time rule. Dang these are going to be some prey driven, level headed and healthy pups.

Remember the quality of the hunt is generally dictated by the quality of the dogs. Poor public land will still give up a bird if your dog is better than everyone else before you.

Here's a common report on any fakebook hunting page.

I hear Ya FB! It also happens on this forum but MUCH LESS often. My group had an exceptional opener, I wouldn't call it the best but definitely top five, maybe top 3 even. When I commented on the SD page here I had someone insinuate that I was on a preserve hunt and our birds were "flare...

    Helping a friend

I have also tied a plastic water bottle to a leg, by adjusting the water level a could adjust how high/fair they can fly. I think 2" of water really held them down, but 1" let them fly quite a few feet. This is with full plumage.

    Here's my trip

I have zero issue with hunting preserves, heck I guide at them quite few times a year. I also don't pretend to never loose a cripple, or question/insult other peoples hunts.

Pull the flight feathers on 1 wing and let the pup chase it down. This is a great way to build prey drive, and subsequently introduce gunfire.

    Here's my trip

Our group of 6 brought home 69 birds, we could have filled out easily but we did lose a couple cripples, we were tired, and it had been a terrific hunt a couple more birds would not make a difference. I wouldn't call it the best opener but it was close! My dogs are smoked, the bums are so...

Dog Starting Heat Cycle - Bring for SD Opener ?

I don't know the answer for you, a lot depends on how you hunt, where you stay, etc. If all the other dogs are fixed and you aren't staying with a bunch of strangers I absolutely would hunt her. PS she may not be ready to go in two weeks, usually they are ready for breeding around day 11 but...

    Vetting Breeders

I would start by going to my breed of choices website and see what they require for health clearances. Next I would check out their website, personally big fancy websites scare me off as usually they are loaded with fluff and little substance. I would then want to meet the sire and Dam. I do...

Here's my trips I've planned for fall.

The dogs and I are heading to Habitat Flats in Summer Missouri October 2 to train for a few days and get acclimated to the climate and terrain. And then we are off to Sedalia Missouri to compete in the National Derby Retriever Championship starting October 6th! Then western SD for opener...

Different types of scenting in dogs.

I always went by the old rule of thumb. But after thinking about it I think the rule of thumb might be crap. Some breeds certainly are more skilled at tracking and do so by scenting the ground as it holds scent longer than airborne scent. But put a springer and a English setter down wind of a...
