GREAT story ! Like yourself I grew up hunting wild pheasants in Pa.. It seemed like ALL of south east Pa. was geared for the Pheasant Season, every restaurant was jammed at lunchtime with hunters. It seemed like every other pickup truck on RT 22 had a bird dog in it . A few years ago we hunted...

I've planted loads of switch grass but by no means an expert ! I've mixed the warm season grasses up until they get a little more mature . Maybe someone else will chime in !

WOW! What a great and refreshing Post ! Yes indeed there are wild pheasants in Pa.. sometimes we get tired of trying to convince others of that fact . There are a few areas in South West Pa. that it has become a community effort .They are VERY tight lipped about it and want to keep it that way ...

Was out this morning and flushed three birds, only one offered a decent shot and I was lucky enough to connect . Had some good action last week. While we will still work the dogs the shotguns will be put away.It's been another good year overall .

Growing up one of the best pheasant dogs I've ever had was a mixed breed . We did everything together, so hunting was just another thing added to the list. Like others have said you MUST start with obedience, your dog must be under control before you even think about introducing him to birds...

I know all too well about 3 hour rides ! lol We hunted 333 a couple of years ago when Chip was just a pup and I really liked the cover there. I wouldn't doubt that there are hold over birds there and some possible reproduction, although I can't confirm that . I haven't hunted 108 "yet"...

Hunted SGL'S in the South East, VERY tough going ! Most of the areas looked like ghost towns with very little sign. Finally at the last area we came across some sign. This was in some real thick nasty cover . Chip did his thing, a well earned bird on his part, he hunted hard all day.

Thanks Brian,we've taken three birds since the start of the second season but the've been hard to come by!

Although I like hunting the rifle season for deer there's nothing like watching a good bird dog on hot scent!
