    1 - 2 - 21 report NW Iowa

Just got back from today's outing. It was a shoulda, coulda, woulda day. I hunted 4 spots and got into birds at each, saw plenty of pheasants but no roosters in range.

    1 - 2 - 21 report NW Iowa

I had to work today until 10am, got out to the hunting area around noon. Last weeks snow has most of the ditches blown shut but the one's where good heavy cover remains tend to hold birds. The first spot has produced before and again today it held birds. It's a nice cattail infested corner...

    NW Iowa 12-26-20

This morning it was up at 5 am and out the door by 6 so we could make the drive up north to the lakes area and the large public expanses that are present there. Of course I had Kepa along and my oldest son Kenny joined me as well. Right at the 8 am start time we were almost to the first public...

    Christmas morning report

Merry Christmas everyone!!! This morning Kepa and I decided to venture out before heading over to my parents house for Christmas. We didn't venture too far from home, we found alot of the ditches blown pretty much shut and most (but not all) of the birds bunched up. We started out at a public...

Gave it the old college try this afternoon Sioux City ish area after working a morning shift and was able to hunt from noon to the 4:30 pm close. My brother was able to join me which was nice. It was a beauty of a day out and we were able to walk quite a few ditches taking turns hunting with...

    NW Iowa report 12-12-20

Stayed near Sioux City today for a 1/2 day pheasant hunt. The rain last night had the roads a bit slick this morning but nothing too bad as it certainly could have been worse. 7:45am found me watching 10 roosters and 8 hens leaving some nice, thick huntable cover in a ditch for the center of the...

    Thanksgiving Day/Extended weekend hunting results

We need some snow!!! I also agree on the weather part, too warm most days and the lack of snow is disappointing. I would love to get a few inches of snow to stick around the last couple weeks of the season so I can see if the bird #'s in the area's I hunt really are that low or if I am just a...

    Dec 6th 2020 report

Did a quick late morning early afternoon hunt in western Iowa today. Walked 2 spots and got 1 rooster out of each. This is my young labs first season and she continues to do really well. Kepa was able to put both roosters up, I was able to make both shots and Kepa made both retrieves. Pretty...

    Feral cats

I was out today and stopped at one of my go too spots; an old grown up cemetery. I got out and saw "cat tracks" on the road in the mud. I thought of this thread. Then hunted the spot and missed a rooster three times but never saw a cat.

    Feral cats

Personally I leave predator control to trappers. I road hunt a ton, in the area's I hunt I rarely see a cat (let alone multiple cats) . I can't even remember the last time I saw one.

Pheasant hunting Harrison county north and west Missouri Valley

I have not been south to Missouri Valley Iowa area this year at all. (Second hand report) I have a friend who bow hunts the area pretty regularly and he says from what he's seen the quail #'s are pretty good and pheasants are few and far between in the Loess Hills in the area he hunts.
