    SD trip 2023

totally agree, we thought about hunting some of it but decided with what time of day it was we would leave it be. I used to hunt some private land close to those fields years ago, but the land owner moved into town and recently passed away this summer. I talked to his son while we were out there...

    SD trip 2023

I was shocked to see all that land get put into CREP, he has 1000's more acres around that area too. I looked at all that CREP this fall on our last trip out and I don't know if they have planted it yet or what the plan is for it but right now it looks like moonscape with some spotty cover. My...

BB I am pretty sure I know exactly what CREP land you are talking about and who the farmer is, would his initials happen to be BP?

    Iowa report from today

Not good, we saw birds. Still a lot of corn up in the area we were hunting. First day I had a $500 vet bill after my older dog got into a barbwire fence. Buddy I was with left the next day because his dog was having health issues that they hadn’t figured out till after he got home. Needless to...

    Iowa report from today

Not sure how this spot continually creates so many birds, but every year for the past 4-5 years we have put up anywhere from 75-150 birds on the sunday of opening weekend. I have some friends that hunted this spot last week two days in a row and they said they had numerous flushes of 20-30 birds...

    Iowa report from today

Went out this past friday on my way back home from a SD trip that was cut short. Hunted 2 spots first thing in the morning, saw a lot of birds leaving the field at 7:30, heard them around 7:45 and then nothing when we walked the fields. Driving to my next spot that produced well over 100 birds...

Retail on it at scheels is $1129 plus tax so over $1200 out the door. Looking to get $1000 for it. Local pick up only as I don't want to deal...

    Hunting Unharvested Corn or Soybeans

Any state school land you can hunt, asked the question about cattle years ago with a CO and he stated that even though the cattle are out there the 650ft rule didn't apply because it is state ground. He said you may run across people that run their cattle on the state ground and they tell you to...

    First year pheasant hunting

Give it a month or so and the hunter numbers will decline, especially once the weather turns cold and nasty. Best time to hunt is december when we get snow on the ground and things freeze up!

Kuiu brush or orvis tough shells

Myself and a couple guys I hunt with all have the Orvis Pro LT hunting pants and have nothing but good things to say about them. They are a bit spendy at around $180-200 but I have had my first pair for 3 years now and they look like they can easily go another 5-7 years without issue.

    Boots

I have 2 pairs of kenetreks and most of the guys I hunt with all have kenetreks or crispi for boots. They do take some getting used to especially if your used to wearing irish setters/danners boots like that. The kenetreks and crispi's are a mountain boot and are stiff and will take some walking...
