    Chick Sightings?

Had a covey of younger birds in my front yard this past weekend. I think about 10 all together. Another bigger covey out back the day before.

Help with 5 month old lab encouraging retrieving

Look up videos by bill Hillman. Puppy videos. Keep that older dog away from him when you are training. Get a 7 foot 3/8 inch soft rope with no knot or handle on the end. Just a rope and flat collar. Watch the Hillman puppy videos.

    Need some advice

Further west. If you have dogs there should be some good quail hunting tho. But Mankato area isn’t what it once was. None of Kansas is tho.

    Best Dogs

My current little lab female is my best, so far. She’s an HRCH and could have been/be a grand dog but I don’t have the time nor money to run her in a grand. She’s great in the upland and obviously excels in the marsh. The level of control you have over a dog like that over a meat dog that’s...

    Sharptail Hunt

We rode through that area the beginning of august. Grass was green but I’ve seen it look better over the years. The area around and especially south of North Platte looked really good. Other parts of the Sandhills looked average to me.

    Prairie chickens

We used to shoot quite a few outa our duck blinds in the early 90s here in KS. A big pond I used to hunt was in the flight path of several very large flocks. Those chickens are gone now. Not a bird around that area any longer. Fort Pierre is the place to hunt them early in the season...

    Final days in Kansas

State needs to get a handle on the guides. They are basically unregulated as far as I know. They need to require guide licenses, first aide training required, mandatory reporting to the state for birds killed/fish caught etc. They are absolutely ruining it for the freelance hunter.

    Grits Gresham on Pheasant Hunting

That video was actually a very good video for someone just starting to hunt. It was informative and instructional. Exactly what it was made to be.

    Utah West Desert Chukar

Chukar are on my bucket list. Probably never happen though. It’s best to probably hunt those with a friend along just in case. I didn’t know that Utah had any chukar in numbers. I have a good friend who lives down south in St George I think it is. He said chukar? Never seen one lol.

Northern MO Turkey Hunts For Sale

You should advertise in your local paper. Doubt anyone here is the least bit interested in paying 950 for a Turkey lol. That’s just crazy!

    New strap vest

Q5 San Carlos is what I use. It’s great for short hunts and will hold enough for an all day away from the truck hunt. Easy on easy off. Great quality and customer service as well.

    Asking permission

Always best to ask in person. Gives them kinda a warm and fuzzy about you. A letter they don’t know from Adam. Letter is a waste of time asking. It’s hard enough in person nowadays.

    Kansas Hunt

You can find birds but habitat is key obviously. I have a spot about an hour from the house that once upon a time the entire area was a great mixed bag area. No longer is that the case. The spot I mentioned always has lots of birds on it but that is one of the only spots in the entire NE...

    Crop weed killer killing chicks?

Fescue is/was the downfall to quail. It’s to think for chicks to get through! Turkeys don’t eat quail chicks and even if they do they wouldn’t eat enough to make a difference. Habitat loss is the reason our birds are declining. The biggest reason anyway.

    Reports

Loss of habitat is more of a problem than drought IMO. Fence row to fence row farming and loss of CRP and every water way being hayed.

    Reports

Quail at every spot I walked today. Good times.
