In your opinion, how many public land pheasants in the bag would make for a successful season?

I grew up on the very NW corner of Waukesha County in the 60's & 70s. I used to walk out the back door and hunt pheasants, rabbits and ducks, sometimes in MKE county which was a simple walk away. Around that time my Dad started buying land in Washington and Fond Du lac county so when I was able...

    GSP questions

You might find a 40lb GSP but why try? There are 40lb breeds that will do everything a GSP will do and sometimes better. Braque Francais and Brittany come to mind and I am sure there are others as well.

    Land prices.

Farming. The neighbor is a large dairy operation. He's been leasing that parcel for 50+ years from my dad and now me. I don't know how that economics of that would work for him. Corn yields are about 150 bushel/ac. But I guess he doesn't need fertilizer because has has all the cow shit he could...

    Land prices.

I've got an 80 ac parcel in E. Central WI. The neighbor just offered $15k/acre unsolicited. It the north side of a steep moraine (2nd highest pint in the county by a couple of feet). Not great farm ground but is a good toboggan hill!

    Indiana Quail

Since some other hunting states seems to have a quail thread I thought I'd start one for Hoosiers. I hunt a little quail each year in IN. Gone twice this year so far. It's a very short season running about 6 weeks. In two hunts I have now kicked up 6 covey of quail both in NW IN and SE IN. I'm...

    Jeopardizing Future Opportunities

Some people don't like hunting. I've asked one guy many times to hunt one little patch and always a no. I think he feels possessive of the wildlife that uses his property. So I hunt next door and kill his birds.

    How long

At 61 I've never felt that at all. Just like to and can hunt, so I hunt as often as I can, which isn't very often. I also play golf and walk 18 holes (very hilly course.) Most of the guys my age ride carts. A couple older than me walk but not many. And I'm too short for my height!

    2024 Reports

Got out Sunday for a quail hunt. I do that usually in SE Indiana, Shelby and Decatur counties and occasionally in Rush Co. Basically in the triangle made by Shelbyville, Columbus and Greensburg. And usually we might see one or two coveys and sometimes none. First place we stopped flushed a...

I would expect that. As "hunters" become more negligent landowners will become more vigilant.
