    Spring Turkey

I cut the breasts into strips, bread lightly, and fry them quick and hot. The boys like it cooked that way. I have a friend who slices semi frozen breasts on a meat slicer, marinates in Franks hot sauce, then throws them on the dehydrator. It makes a decent snack. I haven't found a great way...

Alfa 22 blank pistol and blanks as new

Wish I would have seen this sooner. I just upgraded to the Alfa .209 a couple weeks ago. If anyone is considering this, these are heavy duty, well built training pistols.

Motels in SW or WC MN

I've stayed at the Econo Lodge in Ortonville. Nice place, dog friendly, and reasonable rates.

    CATTAILS

We have been dry for so long in this part of N.W. IA, that the cattail marshes are drying up on their own. Late last fall I noticed a couple of different patches that had been mowed, then disked. They didn't take the entire patch, but they really cut down on the habitat that was there. Sad to...

Help with an A-5 serial number.

    Thank you!

Help with an A-5 serial number.

The stock is smudged from excessive handling today. There is a small crack in the forearm that can be seen in the first pic. Otherwise, the wood is in very good shape.

Help with an A-5 serial number.

    Having to crop them down.

Help with an A-5 serial number.

Here is the serial number. I'm having issues loading other pics, it's telling me they are too large to attach. It is a 12 gauge. I will try to get more pics uploaded.

Help with an A-5 serial number.

I was wondering if we had any Browning A-5 experts on the forum? Today I became the temporary owner of my Grandpa's A-5. At least I think it's an A-5...I am no expert! The serial number is 97916. From what little I could find online, it may have been made in 1927. I'm not sure how accurate the...

    LOST DOG in Sioux Falls

I shared it on my Facebook page. I have a couple dozen friends in that area. Prayers that Jake is returned home safely.

How do you call your dog in the field?

I run springers, which are close working dogs by nature, so what works for me, may not work for you. I train with a whistle, but I don't use it when hunting. I used to turn a dog with two beeps on the collar, but I've gone away from that whenever possible. Now, if the cover isn't too thick, it's...

    A thought on shooting technique

Twenty-five-ish years ago, in my early twenties, I went to a sporting clays course for the first time. I waited around until a group of guys who looked like they knew what they were doing showed up. I asked to tag along, and they let me shoot with them. Turns out, one of the gentlemen in the...

    Specialty gear/equipment

I like the looks of that ALPs belt, too. One of the things I love about the Orvis belt is the shell pockets. They are easy to open and close, and they stay open or closed. I can throw it in the back of the pickup with pockets full of shells, and they stay there.

    Rate your past season

I had a pretty darn good season. The dogs and I made a few trips to MN before our IA and NE seasons started. They have some really well cared for public lands in MN. We will get back up there this fall, if my schedule allows. The highlights of my season were getting to hunt with my oldest son as...

    Specialty gear/equipment

Not necessarily pheasant hunting specific, but I picked up an Orvis hybrid dove and clay belt last Spring. It works great for shooting clays and dove hunting, and it will also hold bumpers, a check cord, and water for dog training. I use it way more often than I figured I would. If I lost it, I...

    Pheasant Fest

I would have loved to have made it, but with my work schedule I would have had to take four days of vacation. When I weighed that versus saving that vacation time for hunting this Fall, I could not justify it. I will not miss Sioux Falls next year though. Just an hour up the road from me!

    2022/2023 PHEASANT Hunting Videos

Yes. I almost bout the 3rd gen, before the season started. I decided to hold off to see of they had a Black Friday sale. Before Black Friday they announced the 4th Gen. I really like it. I got two days in without charging the battery. I really like ot so far.

    2022/2023 PHEASANT Hunting Videos

Knowing yesterday would possibly be our last trip of the season, I put all three dogs down. It was probably the best dog work I've had all season. The dogs were working this bird from the time the footage starts. I adjusted my GoPro settings before this hunt. The shot appears to be a long one...

Pheasants breasts seem redder in the cold?

Interesting. The bird I cleaned yesterday had more fat on him than any bird I can remember cleaning. He was also an old bird. Until today, we have not had much snow to contend with. I will definitely pay attention to this from now on.
