    britton/hecla area

There was probably 75% or more corn up this past weekend, so it was hard to say. That being said, I saw precious few when driving around. So IDK.

Does South Dakota law enforcement use pheasant decoys?

I was always under the impression that it had to be hit with high velocity rifle rounds. But youtube and the interwebs definitely have some going boom with birdshot. IDK, i don't think he was full of it.

Does South Dakota law enforcement use pheasant decoys?

This was before the county had a fulltime CO. I'm not sure if he still does it now. Seems like an uncomfortable conversation with the law lol. Dude is certainly a character.

Does South Dakota law enforcement use pheasant decoys?

I know a landowner that would save the carcass of a pheasant, shove some low velocity tannerite in it's body cavity, glue it back together, shove a rod into it and set it well into his property in ND. He would set it out on the weekends, and he said it was never much of a wait until a road...

    britton/hecla area

My farmer friends in the Britton area couldn't believe the lack of pheasants when harvesting these past couple weeks. I think the last winter/spring snows put a big hurt on the phez in that area (and up into ND).

    Birds up….

I'm not sure exactly where you are, but I hunt SE ND and the numbers are hurting. I think the late winter/early spring snow that the S/SE part of the state got really hurt the birds. I saw sloughs that were completely filled in that I have never seen filled. For the first time in a very long...

Kuiu brush or orvis tough shells

I was hunting with a buddy who rocked the Kuiu brush pants. He really liked them. We were after sharpies, so easy cover, but he planned to hunt phez with them too. I personally have the Orvis tough shells, and will buy them again. To my feel, the orvis are a much, much tougher pant. In really...

    For those shooting 28 gauge

Ic/mod for lead and bismuth. Cyl/IC for TSS.

    For those shooting 28 gauge

I shoot a 28 for early season sharps and phez. Bismuth loads are great for that, when worried about non-tox shot. I continue to use a 28 for midseason phez, but I handload TSS. It's scary how far away those stay deadly. They pattern tight, so I generally clean miss or completely stone them...

    Drahthaar experiences

Background: I have 3 dogs, a 6yo DD, a 2yo PP, and a 12yo shepherd mutt. Bird hunt maybe 60-70 days a year, all wild birds (prairie grouse/forest grouse/phez/SW quail). Sharpness: If I had to leave a dog around my 3yo niece, it would be the DD hands down. The most gentle and forgiving dog I've...

Unhappy with my home state (MN) hunters.

You must be pro socialist agenda? Seeing how Montana has no problem with the federal redistribution of wealth? (Montana gets more from the feds than they put in. Minnesota gets way less then they put in.)

Unhappy with my home state (MN) hunters.

The land I post in ND gets it's fair share of road hunters (ND and non-res alike). The single worst offender for trespassing is local deer hunters. Shoot fast, retrieve fast, hopefully don't get caught. Interestingly enough, I've been checked by the warden four times this year, and not once...

    Best GoPro 8 settings

Oh, regarding the enduro batteries, I have 4 and they are great. Honestly not a huge difference in recording time, BUT they work when they are cold. I've been frustrated so many times by cold GoPro batteries that wont even power up the camera.

    Best GoPro 8 settings

I run a Hero 9 and 11, but this is what I use: Stock lens: 4k, 30fps, linear w/ horizon leveling, high bitrate, low sharpening, flat color. Max lens mod: 2.7k, wide, high bitrate, low sharpening, flat color. I'm not sold on the max lens mod, I get weird glares with it, but it's nice to be...

    2022 Road side counts

Carry a gun with steel shot. Now you are dove hunting. Walk away on any WPA you want.

Loan your dogs to a buddy?

I generally agree with your point, although I certainly have friends that I would happily loan my dog to and family that would never in a million years get my dog! Haha.

Loan your dogs to a buddy?

My 5 year old draht is by most all accounts, a superb pheasant dog. I trained the hell out of her, she's a NAVHDA VC. That being said, she wouldn't be half the dog she is if I hadn't loaned her to my father in law every fall. He lives in SD, but doesn't have the time to train another dog (he was...

    REAL South Dakota 2021 review.

BB has it right. I'm 35, but fully expect that when I'm an old man decent hunting will only be on preserves. Land is just too expensive to leave out of production. That is if there is any hunting at all, many groups would love to see it ended. That is unless there is a giant shake up. I think...

    Walkable Ice?

I was in NE SD this past weekend, and never had to worry about ice holding me as there was almost none to walk on. Hunted cattails for 5 hours straight and was usually over my ankle and often over my knee in water/muck. To echo what was posted, the 4-5 inches of snow will NOT help. Not sure if...

How can they hay this much public ground

Yep, the decimation of cover is a serious gut punch. Here's a rancid cherry on top: if we have another drought next spring and summer, and/or we have a very severe winter, next year will be even worse.
