Welcome to UPH. I'm originally from Canby, MN and still do a little hunting around there but currently live in Watertown, SD. Where are you from in West Central MN?
Check out Steve's review on the GunDog Supply web site about the TEK 1.5 collars. There are also some reviews from people that are using the collars.

I know that SportDog has some issues with their early models of the TEK but I haven't heard of any issues lately. Maybe they got those resolved with the TEK 1.5.
If you google "Garmin 550 plus holster" you will get quite a few options. Or take a look at these options from Gun Dog Supply.

The Alpha has a lot of features, many that you will probably never use. The 550 Plus is simplier and would likely do everything you need. The only downside I see is the larger transmitter. Have you looked at the SportDog TEK collars?
Are you still located in Rapid City? There is a Weimaraner breeder in SW Nebraska that you might call. I personally know nothing about this breeder, don't even know if tthey are still in business. But you might try giving them a call...
You probably couldn't find a worse place in South Dakota for bird hunting. Unless you want to drive 100+ miles east or north of the Deadwood/Lead area. Also, that time of year in that area you could have a fair amount of snow.

Let me know how they work out. I may may need a new pair of boots this fall. I've got hard to fit "old feet". Glad to see they come in a EE width.
I know the quail are way down in Arizona due to the extreme heat and dry conditions the past couple of years. That could also effect southern Utah. Where are you saying pheasant number are also down?
