    Forecast for the Opener

To your original question, 60s for pheasant opener is sort of cool to me. Years past it seemes opener is always in the 70s, few times it's been in the low 80s. So 60s will seem "cool" compared to other years.

    Forecast for the Opener

Hottest and dryest September on record for MN.

    Black Cloud for Pheasant

In that case I think you'd be fine with the Black Clouds if that's what you have on hand already. I used them for a couple years (I shot # 3s) awhile back and shot really well with them. But have since gravitated back to lead or bismuth when I need a non toxic option.

    Black Cloud for Pheasant

I personally use 5s and 6s but I know people use 4s. I'll occasionally go with 4s during later season when birds are jumpier and I'm taking longer shots. Unless you're hunting where non toxic is required, I would skip the steel and just use lead or bismuth as it's a more lethal load.

    Importance of eCollars?

There's really nothing like silently hunting with your dog. You and them both on the same page and communicating in complete silence. It's a real zen moment to me haha

    2024 Upland Season

I got out on a couple short walks last weekend up at my place in northern MN. Couple flushes but no birds bagged. Way to damn hot to be busting brush for long.

Best way to break in new gun

Assuming he means the break action. My new over/under was stiff as hell out of the box. Still is but is much better than before. A new over/under is incredibly stiff compared to a well used one. My dad has a 35 year old Citori that falls open when he breaks the action, my new one opens up but...

A gift for your hunting buddies

I think I'd get his cousin a pair of glasses and a gift card to use for a hunters safety class

    Minnesota Pheasant Counts 2024

Just curious, generally where's that at? South Central? SW? Don't need your hot spot haha but just curious what general area you're hearing good things about

    Garmin Alpha 300 Lanyard

Depending on what kind of vest you use, you can try what I do. I use the gear lanyard attached in the pic and have that clipped through a D-ring on my vest and then have it stuck into one of the shell pouches (that I don't use for shells). This keeps it from bouncing around and keeps it off my...

    Muck/Rubber Boots For Upland

I used to wear a Muck boot for most of my upland hunting and looking back at it I hated the time I spent wearing them. They're great for what they're designed for, to keep your feet dry in wet and mud but in my opinion and experience, not designed for all day wearing. My feet would sweat and...

Best way to break in new gun

Not familiar with Franchi's but check your owners manual to see what they recommend for cleaning. My Browning Citori manual recommended grease for the hinge pins during cleaning and not gun oil. For the initial cleaning I stripped all of the factory lubricant using CLP then greased all the...

Puppy Research - Identifying Litters w/ Bloodlines

Agreed. I think temperament is an often overlooked aspect in dog breeding. Everyone focuses on the health/hunting traits which are absolutely important, but a well tempered dog is something everyone desires. I can't speak for everyone, but for myself I'd rather have an average to above average...

Puppy Research - Identifying Litters w/ Bloodlines

Yeah in discussing genetics with other breeders that are very involved in it and from my own research, the "looks" are very easy to identify and predict. Each quality for a look is tied to a gene, and if mom and dad have a gene for a blocky head for example, they can know looking back and from a...

Puppy Research - Identifying Litters w/ Bloodlines

I think this gets people tripped up a lot really. Especially when looking in past generations. I don't want to say that it doesn't matter, but if a pairing has 2 outstanding grandparents that are carrying the water in a current litter pairing, meaning mom and dad aren't that outstanding but...

Puppy Research - Identifying Litters w/ Bloodlines

Have you reached out to a large breeder to ask your questions? Of anyone who would know of a software/website, etc that does what you want I would think it would be a large breeder as that's kind of their gig. Researching bloodlines and what not. If they aren't aware of anything similar, it...
