    NEK...Ok

I’m actually heading up that way middle of next week. Used to be a regular occurrence as it’s only an hr and a half from my house. I skipped the last couple but with it being slow beats hanging around the house. Had some great hunts up there 15 years ago and more

Yeah I’m a real upper crust guy…. With my construction job and my little ranch home.

    Getting Good Rain

If you are struggling to pay bills perhaps you should be working instead of bird hunting. Resident hunting licenses are horribly cheap here. I would pay 3-4 times the rate if the money was spent on habitat. It is entertainment to me and I am hardly wealthy

Chokes for wild pheasants in a 16 ga. O/U

That’s exactly how I always felt with good, aggressive labs. I run IC/ mod in my Citori. Get them on the ground and put them in the vest. With this dog I may have to rethink that strategy a bit. While she has been a serviceable retriever, she ain’t no lab.

    3rd Eastern Oregon Trip.

Looks like a good haul. I was through the area awhile back when I went out and picked up my dog. Little over 1200 miles from here. Maybe someday

    Where to go in December?

Make sure you’re driving a rube wagon like an Escalade or a big Expedition. Also don’t be afraid to pass out some cash to try and gain private access. You might bring some cheap beer and act stupid

    Dinners served

Ok I have to admit this was amazing. Browned flour covered pheasant chunks on the blackstone in a little oil. Sautéed some mushrooms, onions, fresh garlic and spinach in butter. Added some boiled down chicken broth and cream to make a sauce. Combined everything over a bed of Ziti with fresh...

    Losing confidence in dog

Agreed. Some dogs any stimulation and they will shut down, with others it is just an annoyance. I don’t know about your Pudelpointer but I have found mine to have a prey drive I couldn’t quash with an anvil. She has required more than most of the Labs I have had. She is starting to figure out...

    Ground swatting

So I will admit my father born in 1918 was a swatter delux. Rabbits, quail, pheasants often out of the car window. It’s how a grew up so of course I did it a little up into my early twenties. I have not since, killing a pheasant that my dog has tracked, pointed and retrieved is a great feeling...

    Losing confidence in dog

So I have been a lab guy for 35 years or so. From my first to my last they got progressively better. Part was I bought and could afford a better pup, part was I learned more about dogs, and part was I trained to my expectations. So a couple years ago I switched breeds to a pointer. Big learning...

    11/18-11/21 Report-SE SD

Spreading information about specific areas between those of us that are active on here, especially private ground probably has little effect on pressure. The thing you may not realize there are thousands of lurkers on here that never post but gather easy info. There was a post a couple years ago...

    Bird limits

So a few years ago on here there was a thread that talked about a similar issue. It involved the owner of a hunting operation and the fact he had a group of guys hunting one of his properties without dogs. They shot many birds that they could not recover. Eventually they reached their limits but...

    Late Season Advice

15 or so years ago we had many good hunts and shot limits frequently. Hunted there 5-6 years ago and it was just ok and there were a lot of hunters for late season. All I can say is you better like gnarled cattails. There are spots there I am sure that the birds have never been shot at. Miles...
