For approximately 30 yrs. I shot copper plated 6's, from I/C & I/M. Killed 100+ birds per season. This was over pointing dogs, and a 12 ga.

My favorite O/U was choked I/C and I/M. Never had any complaints.

When I lived back east and had to travel (long distances), we always brought gifts. Most of the time was real maple syrup, in pint and quart size. Landowners always got the quart size, and the pints were handed out as needed.

Mara, my Drahthar, was my best overall dog. I have been blessed with 4-5 excellent dogs in my lifetime. Over a thousand phez shot over her, (all wild), in her 14 yrs. Only lost 3-4. She's been gone about 14 yrs. now, but I still think of her quite often. It's a shame they don't live longer.

I can remember day hunts that were birdless, or at least roosterless, when the dogs and I had a great time. We shared a sandwich or whatever I had and just relaxed. Enjoy our great outdoors.

Filet breast meat off. Cut breast meat into bite size pieces. Dredge in egg, then use ITALIAN bread crumbs (Italian best for flavor). Fry in Olive Oil.

When I hunted, ALWAYS used copper plated 6's. Usually Federal, used them day 1 and last day, and all days in-between. Never, ever did I have any problems.

Weimdogman: Just an analogy. Kids go thru driver ed. and learn all the safety issues, but do they follow them after they get their licenses? I'm glad you have had great success, we didn't.

Best of luck. The chapter of PF that I belonged to use to take out kids . It was NOT pleasant! The kids were wild, and wouldn't listen. They were also dangerous. Over the years we stopped two or three hunts because of safety issues, and not listening. Have your head on a swivel.

GWP's, typically are not big running, or fast. While they're not plodders, but are thorough covering ground. They are wonderful dogs! There are other breeds that would suit you better.

Not ideal but you could buy doggie boots. If you do, take the time for your dog to get accustomed to them.

Hunted Iowa for over 35 years, (lived there for over 20 years) and never saw or heard of any porkers. Doesn't mean there isn't any, just never saw any. Good luck.

Any birddog worth it's salt will have a strong desire until the moment he/she dies. That doesn't mean it can! We cannot expect any of our pooches to go as strong as they once did, once they get to certain ages. The age will vary by genetics, and the type of life, and care they've had. Like...

Brand & type of gun are not important. That's up to the buyer, what is important is FIT. It matters not of Brand or type if it doesn't FIT. Best of luck.
