    The old and the young!

I spend a couple of hours after work today hunting on the gamelands. I only saw 4 vehicles and only two people in the 2.5 hours I was out which is a good sign of no recent stocking. I was about 45 minutes in when soon to be 11 year old Nittany had the first point of the day. A woodcock...

    Sunday Pictures

I spent several hours on Sunday morning preparing the ground for a pollinator project and then in the afternoon I was able to get the dogs out for their first run in almost a week. Enjoy the pictures from a beautiful fall day! Quail: Rooster! Point! The flush:

    Good Luck Youth Hunters!

Saturday is the first day of the youth pheasant season. Good luck if you're going out tomorrow. The weather looks to be nice which is a change from the past two years. I'll be helping out with a cast and blast event at the local club for six youth hunters.

    Champ's 1st Preserve Hunt

The rain held off long enough on Saturday morning to get the dogs out for a preserve hunt. I always like to get the dogs out in September for a chance to shoot some birds over them. Champ did great at finding and pointing birds along with backing Nittany and Blitz. I was very happy with his...

    Better Dog Work

The dogs had a little better work today. It did start out with a hen flushing wild but I don't know if the dogs caused it or not. A little after that I see Champ: Turns out he was behind Blitz: Nittany joined the fun a little late: They all held well and which let me get a few pictures...

    Not the best dog work...

I took the dogs out for what has become their morning routine run. I saw something when I let the dogs out but they were running to hard and never took notice to what was in the area. https://youtu.be/IWaAJoHdgb0 Blitz did have another find on this bird but Mr. Rooster didn't wait for me to...

    Getting closer!

August 1st means one more month until the dove opener and one month closer to hunting with the dogs. I start making runs a little longer when the weather permits and today was a good day to do that. It was just Blitz and Champ today since Nittany ran with them yesterday. Nittany's not too...

    Bike-N-Run with the dogs.

I took the dogs and my old mountain bike out for some good exercise today. I stayed in an area that has a creek and some ponds so the dogs could stay cool. Driving down the road I saw that some hedgerows were taken out making some of the smaller fields bigger. The heavy rains from last night...

    Pheasant chick sighting!

On Saturday the farmer cut his wheat field and he is doing more work in the fields today. This field is bordered by a fence row, cow pasture and other crop fields. It is across the road from the CREP fields that I release pheasants in for the local club. When I was driving back from the club...

Wild bobwhite quail may be returning to Pennsylvania

http://blog.pennlive.com/pa-sportsman/2015/07/wild_bobwhite_quail_may_be_ret.html I'm all for the plan but I do wonder why the PGC opened quail state wide except for 5A and then look to an area outside of 5A to try and establish quail.

    Sweet suprise!

I was working outside at home on Sunday when I thought I heard a bob white call. I wasn't sure and then the neighbor started his mower up and I couldn't hear anything. This morning I went to check on the pheasants I'm raising for the club and I heard the call of a bob white. Then I saw where...

    Bird and dog pictures

I picked up a few chukar to work with Champ. I wanted to get some birds shot over him since it has been a while. On the way to the training area I saw this guy. My wife was able to get a few pictures. Champ started out well and looked good on the first bird he came across. He did an OK...

    Pheasant season started

Well, kind of. I spent the day planting sunflowers, sorghum and a seed mix made for deer, turkey and upland birds. It was PF's bird and buck seed mix. I'm curious to see how it turns out. A guy with a tractor ran his disc over the area and then I broadcast spread the seed and finally drug a...

    Youth Turkey

Did anybody take a youth out for turkey today? I had a friend take me and my oldest out to see if we could get him a gobbler. We heard a few and had one pretty close but we couldn't call him in. Connor still had an enjoyable day with the highlight of walking through a small stream. We heard...
