    Special pheasant!

Talked to him yesterday, he was over the moon happy! I set he and his buddy up on 2 different pieces of land that are a few miles apart, one being mine. They limited between those 2 spots plus an another small chunk of cover that Bill hunted on his own that yielded the high crosser! They...

    Special pheasant!

He limited today…I left he and his buddy about 10 am as they were about to begin hunting, I got the brief report at 5:20 pm that he finished his limit with a “high crosser”…he was in disbelief! I’m like a kid waiting to see what’s beneath the Christmas tree awaiting his call with full details! 🍺👍🥳

    Special pheasant!

By happenstance I learned a newer friend of mine was coming to SD to hunt, he was looking to borrow a kennel cover. I found one for him, and also, insisted that he and his buddy join me at my camp…they arrived Thursday afternoon. Long story short, Bill was diagnosed with cancer in April, and...

1/24/24…34 degrees, wind at 10, gusting to 18, snow much softer than Monday, and a bit softer than Tuesday…just hunted a cattail slough, not hard accessing it or getting around…main bunch of 80 or so busted ahead of my buddy, I veered across the lake and got to a narrow band of cattails…Lena was...

I use them too…gorilla tape over the Velcro closure. Lose one now and again…no biggie.

Muck “chore cool” mid shin….wore them the last 2 days. I often wear them sharpie hunting in early September if the cover is wet…all day, no prob…10 miles +\-. Yes, I prefer light hiking boots, or leather Irish setters, but my chore cool muck’s are great. On my 2nd pair in 4 seasons, mainly...

    Snow depths/minimum maintenance roads

I’m north of 90 and East River. Many roads are impassable. Once you’re over the drifts the walking isn’t bad. Dogs are ok, I have booties on one of my 2. Birds are bunched up…if you can get into smaller #’s of birds it’s better. We just spent 90 minutes and came out with 3…just 2 of us...

    Current conditions 1/22/24

Wind blew 25-40+ all day yesterday, made for some serious drifts in places. Snow is fairly soft and fluffy in the non-drifted areas…shot a few today that were burrowed in the snow and flushed very close by. Saw 300+, probably more, at the spot we hunted. Approaching a cattail slough from a few...
