Dad was on the Bison team briefly after the Navy. He was a top ND HS player (RB) before his service. Knee went out and that was it. Probably ACL. He never said and they would not have been able to do much then anyways My daughter is a 3rd gen Bison grad. People forget they were a DII...

Boy were the pheasants out this past Sunday

I never could stand those beeper collars so have never really used them. Get your friend the Garmin and GPS collar. Used one for 10 years now. Killed a lot of birds with dogs wearing these collars.

    Snowshoeing for pheasants?

Yep. I switch to ice fishing for my outdoor recreation once the snow gets too deep. Then again two years ago ... deep snow hit before the ice was ready to hold it well. Water pushed through holes and cracks in the ice resulting in a formation of ice-water-snow. Wore rubber boots ice...

    Snowshoeing for pheasants?

A few comments: Agree with S16: Each area is different when it comes to hunting roosters in winter and the impact it has on that local population of birds. Interesting pheasants are the only upland (not including turkey) where only males are killed by hunters. If the hunting mortality is...

    Ditch/Road Hunting. IMPORTANT-MUST READ

Years ago (and I mean like 35+ years!) we were hunting with a SD farm family. This was pre-CRP or maybe just when CRP was in its infancy. Anyways we were working a creek bottom and flushed a coyote. A couple of "cousins" to this family who were watching us from the road in an old pickup...

    Ditch/Road Hunting. IMPORTANT-MUST READ

Wait now. On a different thread there is a photo of you (BP) walking a ditch towards your dogs (I assume hanging out with your hunting partner).

Most reasonable lodge wild bird hunting

I have never hunted at a private lodge. I have hunt pheasants in four states (MN, ND, SD, and IA). I have had 50 - 100+ flush days in three of those states (not IA - only hunted there a day or two because I got an upland license that carried to fall with my turkey permit). Most of those 50...

It was a nice day to be out hunting.

Most reasonable lodge wild bird hunting

SD Outfitters are mostly catering to larger groups or combined groups. Rare is the outfitter that offers self-guided hunts on wild birds for 1 - 3 people. The economics are probably just not there. They want to have groups of 8 - 20 walk a few spots, kill their limit and on to the next day...

    Motel?

I think many MN hunters on this site would view the Glencoe area as a day trip destination so we are not going to be much help based on personal experience.

From a few years ago now. That solo hunt lasted about 1/2 the time that it took just to drive out there.

    Late Season Hunt

The old school motel where you can back right up to your motel room door seems to have disappeared. They were great for ease of access and on occasion, when you wanted to grill.

    Golden Hour Hunting???

That said I have watched pressured pheasants move into cover after sunset.
