Favorite pant or chaps to hunt cattails in the snow?

I ended up going with the Dan's 5-star, we had fresh snow Friday night so I wore them Saturday and Sunday in the snow. First thought when I put them on is they're a little noisy, but once I started hitting the cattails I didn't notice the noise. I had a thought that it would make pheasants a...

Favorite pant or chaps to hunt cattails in the snow?

I'll be wearing my gaiters over the top of the chaps when wearing them. I got the Dan's in last night, they do seem a bit noisy, but for 50 bucks they seem pretty decent quality. I'll likely only be wearing them for a dozen or so hunts each year when the snow is deeper or on the cattails. I...

Favorite pant or chaps to hunt cattails in the snow?

I had a couple other people recommend Dan's Five Star Chaps (50$'s) which I may think of giving a try, also made in the USA and cheaper than the Filson. I already wear Kennetrek Gaiter's, it's my thighs that get wet. Reviews seem pretty decent as well. I'll order some up and post a review, I'm...

Favorite pant or chaps to hunt cattails in the snow?

I spend a lot of time chasing pheasants in the snow which means I beat the shit out of the cattails with my golden. Anyone have any recommendations for a high quality waterproof chap or upland pant? I have a pair of browning and Carharts that I like and wear every time out, but I do get wet...

Weight of labs and golden retrievers

My golden is in the low 60's towards the end of pheasant hunting and floats around mid 60's late winter into summer when we begin running heavy. I generally have to bribe him to eat during pheasant hunting, otherwise he starts skirting with the too light category. He's tall for a field bred...

    A true triple?

I've killed a couple "doubles", but they didn't flush at the same time, staggered flushes but I was standing in the same spot. Early in the year I've been lucky and flushed really large broods occasionally. Had a group of 8 roosters get up this year, only needed one more for a limit so I had...

    2021 Bird Hunting Pics/Reports

Western and northwest WI has a wild pheasant population. I'm not going to give you GPS pins or anything but I would be willing to help you get started in a direction if you want to shoot me a PM, I hunt a couple different counties and kill wild birds (I think, no stocking nearby any of my...

    2021 Bird Hunting Pics/Reports

Bird numbers are good where I hunt. We've put up a few different young coveys where the roosters haven't turned yet. Let a couple fly that I wasn't sure on only to have them cackle 80 yards out. We've killed 7 already in this young season, been a lot of guys out but my normal honey holes...

    2020 WI Pheasant Reports/Pics

Bird numbers have been good, multiple flushes every-time out. Had a terrible streak of 17 consecutive hens flushed but that should mean 100 roosters next year right? We've killed 6 public land roosters hunting 7 or 8 days in the northwest part of the state on non-stocked lands. Shot a dozen...

    2019 Wisconsin pheasant report

So are they fake birds that I'm shooting? Or am I making up numbers? Or are they grouse that I'm flushing when running in the spring next to a big switchgrass field? Just curious where I need to work on my story so I'm not sugarcoating it at my next big gathering and I go really big with it...

    2019 Wisconsin pheasant report

I hunt two counties that don't release any pheasants, and I shot 21 last year, have been out 4 trips so far this year and have limited out each hunt, hunting mostly federal WPA's and some state land with habitat that rivals SD in a certain 10 mile stretch that I love hunting. WI is known more...

    2019 Wisconsin pheasant report

Couldn't disagree more. Plenty of pockets in the state that hold wild birds. Most of WI is ruffed grouse and woodcock country; but plenty of wild pheasants have found the bottom of my vest in WI. 21 in WI last year alone actually.
