    Land Acquisition and Conservation Easements

Has anybody here ever had any experience with conservation easements? Looking to buy a parcel when I'm out of college and am trying to make it as affordable as possible. Land prices in PA are wild. Lots of people and they're not making any more land. Low supply high demand, you do the math.

    Wild Pheasants in Centre County?

In previous threads I have talked about having a handful of pheasants around our farm in the past few years. With added effort from participating landowners, I think we could have something truly special. Cutting down to the nitty gritty here... Would anyone be willing to assist with some...

A man can dream right? From what I have read, mostly all of what they are planting at LEAD is little bluestem. I do not have much experience with it, but is it a viable pheasant cover? I’m sure it’s good nesting, as all NWSG bunch grasses are, but is it a good all around cover such as Indian and...

    Wild Captive Breeding

Was just up to the farm for the last time before I ship of to URI for college. I moved the 3 quail I had left into the old pheasant pen. At my house I had them in a small pen on wire, didn’t lay much this spring. Kinda disappointing, but no sooner than a week in the new pen on the ground, I...

Hey y'all, With the recent new hope found in the bobwhite restoration in Franklin Co, I was wondering how far the compound is from the site where pheasants are present in the Franklin WPRA. I have read that the population trend in the Franklin WPRA is very promising, but they are somewhat...

    Seeding native grasses organically??

It has been left fallow for many years. They mow it once a year for mulch hay and to keep autumn olive at bay. They are not into CRP because as stated they take hay off of it. Both fields are about 5 acres a piece. And the one is shaped somewhat like an H. Tons of edge. Would be great for...

    Seeding native grasses organically??

Hey y'all, so I have spoken to a neighboring landowner about doing native grass plantings. (currently fallow cropland) Problem is, they are an organic operation and do not allow for herbicide use. Does anybody know of a way to get NWSG established without tillage or herbicides?

    Trap n Transfer

I agree with the captive breeding... but with that being said, that would be a massive enclosure, and a good genetic strain of birds would be needed in my opinion, but i think it could be worth a shot.

    Trap n Transfer

I know that the PGC and a few other parties held a successful trap and transfer operation from SD and Montana to PA. With that being said, I’m sure there was an absolute ton of paperwork and red tape to get that approved. What I’m asking is if there is a way to get birds from out of state...

    WILD Pheasant Harvest Numbers

Great to see that! Unfortunately that was 6 years ago. Hopefully they performed that miracle they seem so adept at of hatching out nests. I’m not ready to throw in the towel for pa pheasants. I’m off to the university of Rhode Island in September for college so I’m hoping what we’ve done thus...

    Swiitchgrass vs Mix

I’ve watched his videos extensively. I agree to an extent. Switch alone is OUTSTANDING winter cover but in terms of nesting in brood rearing it gets a B-. What I have found to get the best results is if you have a 20 acre field, plant 10-12 acres of it in a mix, as mixes are more attractive to...

    WILD Pheasant Harvest Numbers

Great news about the wild birds in Berks county. I’m 18 so I didn’t get to live the glory days but I don’t think game land hunting is all that bad. Are there any options for habitat improvement? I would be very interested in helping out. It’s a hike from Northumberland county where I’m at to...
