    2007 Polaris Sportsman 800V-Twin EFI on-demand 4wd

My personal experience was awful with this model. Had severe engine issues twice. I finally just sold it. Had an 04 sportsman 400 that ran perfect wish I never would sold my 400.

    Phez appetizers

I cut them in chunks, fry some bacon, but make sure it's not crispy it's still soft. Brown the pheasant chunks in bacon grease. Take a chunk of pheasant wrap in bacon poke a toothpick, and add a chunk of pineapple, and a sliced water chestnut to the toothpick. Put them on a baking sheet and...

    possession thread made me paranoid

I've been checked 3 times in the last few years, and my shells were checked once. I like the two vest idea. So logical, never thought of that. Good tip. Now I gotta buy a new vest:cool:

    Possession Limit

I pride myself on doing everything within legal and ethical boundaries. In Illinois our possession limit is 6 pheasants, and I'll admit I probably have a few more than that in my freezer at times. Obviously, some are from other states. If you are worried about a CO checking your freezer, you...

    Shells? Bring Money

In desperation, I bought a case of these. Hope they aren't junk. Anyone have any knowledge or experience of RIO ammo. Had decent reviews. There was 10 cases available on Tuesday when I bought them, but they are now out of stock. I guess worse case scenario, I can sell them to my buddies who...

    Shells? Bring Money

In the last 3 days I have stopped in at a Cabelas, a Bass Pro Shops store, and two different Farm & Fleets in Northern, IL. No decent upland loads to be found. There is some steel shot waterfowl loads, and some cheap target loads, but no lead upland loads. No handgun ammo anywhere.

    How to Shoot a Bird

I truly believe gun fit is very important, but understanding eye dominance might be one of the most fundamental aspects to shooting a shotgun. Unfortunately, I’m a right handed shooter with a dominant left eye. Once I understood that and learned how to shoot with a dominant left eye, my...

Looking For an English Pointer Pup In The Next 12 Months

My setter is turning 11 this year, and want to get an EP pup in the next year. I live in Northern IL, and don't mind driving up to 400 miles. I'm looking for a well bred EP that won't run too big. I like a dog with a lot of zip so looking to get back into an EP for my next project. I am...

    Albino pheasant?

I'm 51 years old, and have been avidly hunting pheasants for 41 years. I've seen one albino pheasant in all that time and that was about 30 miles west of Aberdeen, SD. I saw it standing in cornstalks while doing some scouting before shooting hours. He flushed wild and cackled when we returned...

How to judge a good bird dog?

I can only speak for myself, and my family has always had pointing dogs. Currently one setter. A couple of things come to mind when judging a good pointing bird dog. I can only speak to pointing dogs since I have never owned a flusher. Number one for me is listening skills. I want my dog to...

How About The Weirdest, Strangest Thing you've Seen/Experienced While Hunting?

Years ago my dad and I were quail hunting. Our dog pointed a covey, and they got up behind us. My dad swung his gun to get a shot at the birds, and as he was turning a quail flew right into his gun barrel, and it fell dead at his feet. He always loved telling that story to people.

How About The Weirdest, Strangest Thing you've Seen/Experienced While Hunting?

Not quite the same, but I was taking a vide of some pheasants flying back into some CRP in east central Illinois a few days ago, and a hen flew into the powerline. Kind of hard to see, but here's a link to the video:

    Bird sightings

My day was like that on Wednesday. At least 20 hens pointed. Didn't see our first rooster until the 3rd spot and it got up wild. Had my cousin with me, and really wanted to get him a bird, so took him to one of my honey holes over by Cissna, and we killed 3 in 15 minutes. He wanted to know...

    Bird sightings

Made 7 trips back to Iroquois County this year. Hunted by myself 3 times with a buddy or two the other 4. Killed a limit 5 out of 7 times. Had a limit each time I hunted by myself. Only 1 bird short the other 2. Best morning I had was with a buddy, we had 4 by 8:30. All in all pretty...

Cool stuff you see while hunting...

Here in Illinois, we had an ice storm a week ago. The ice is still all on the trees, but we have had heavy fog the last 4 nights resulting in some of the most beautiful ice crystals on every tree, wire, sign etc. Really unbelievable how incredible it looks. Made for some great scenery on my...
