    Rain

They closed the roads from Colorado so I suspect there won’t be too many folks here tomorrow. Maybe Sunday the crowds might appear.

    Rain

Supposed to rain in my neck of the woods until noon tomorrow. We’ve had 2-1/4” of rain. I’d think the side roads are going to be impassable for a few days. Might try to hit a couple of WIHA close to the paved roads tomorrow afternoon.

    First day in Western Nebraska

I drove from my place in NWKS to Cheyenne a few weeks ago taking mostly the untraveled back roads and both coming and going I didn’t see a single bird. It is quite concerning as just a few years ago there was a plentiful supply all through the Imperial to Oglalla area. I’m sure it is good to get...

Ran my .017” Rhino in the A400 today for dove as they seem a bit spooky lately. That choke constriction was crushing them at distance.

I used to do that but there is too many big game hunters out there. So many get a bit peeved when me and the dog come crashing through. I generally stopped The weekend before 1st season rifle.

I used to hunt Coalmont. There are always good bird numbers there. Just have to get there early and stake out your spot. Gets a bit busy in NP and the limit is two and two in possession. I actually hunt closer to Kremling now. If you have any questions feel free to ask me. Regards, Matt

    Colorado Sage Grouse

Went up for the Saturday opener. I had two flush wild off of a hillside. Tried to pick them up but couldn’t find them. Walked a few more miles and flushed two off of a hillside. Flubbed the first shot then rolled one on second shot. I saw where the other one sailed and went over and...

Sorry. Didn’t see this one until this morning. The site didn’t like my email any more. I would have pointed you towards Coalmont. Lots of BLM and birds.

    Let’s talk hunting

September 1st has come and gone and for us it our 17th year in a great spot that has had its highs and lows but we’ve never come off the mountainside empty handed. This year was outstanding. We had our limits by 10:15am. Ran into three large coveys. Didn’t have to chase singles.

Telemetrics has specific targets you need to use but you can buy them from National Target Company. Nice thing is I can screen shot my targets and keep them for reference. You can go on Amazon and buy a bore gauge. I just run it in the muzzle, lock it in place and measure with a micrometer. I...

I always measure my bores. It helps me when I select chokes. My older Citori’s have pretty tight bores in comparison to what they advertise so I have to be selective on which chokes to use. I use Briley extended in my Citori’s but Rhino chokes in my A400 (I only use that for sporting clays)...

Have you ever measured the bores and each choke? I have found numerous times what it says on the tube is not what the choke actually is in regards to the bore constriction. Browning factory chokes are notorious for it. Most aftermarket’s are true to size. Your patterns look good for hunting...

    Snow

Here in the very NW corner it covered in heavy snow. Most roads look good until you hit where it drifted. Some drifts are manageable but others are pretty bad. Tried getting into a draw I know that holds birds but turned back at a crossroads when they way I was headed was drifted over...

    SNOW PC's

It depends on the amount of snow. If there isn’t a lot of snow you can. Generally that will be a guard bird, old males or one that over shot the flock. The main flock will be almost an impossibility. They are very hard to get close to when snow pushes down the cover. Lots of eyes looking...
