New 2020-2021 WIHA map is out

The new atlas lists properties I hunted last year that I definitely want to return to. I was worried we would lose a bunch but thankfully don’t see much change. Anyone notice much change?

Anyone planning to chase chickens ?

I shot one early one morning during late season pheasant. I heard they aren’t that great to eat- I loved it! I’m wondering if it’s more effective to hunt them in September.

    Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation

I’m sure something will be in place that makes sense for NR hunters to travel. NR hunters have too much money wrapped up in Sd for 2 to 3 months -No way SD will turn a cheek

Great thread. I’m going to look into sound gear and wildear. I need hearing protection to keep what I have left, but I can’t hear anything when I’m wearing plugs or muffs therefore I need amplification too

    Headed to Kansas

I’ll be there this season as usual unless covid gets in the way. I worry it may indeed be a game changer. once cooler weather and flu season kicks off- it’ll be interesting to see how this impacts covid....

    What size shot???

I would put priority on the bigger bird and go with 5’s. You can’t kill a quail anymore than dead once ! But you sure can cripple and lose pheasant all day long. On another note, I kill more than most when it comes to bobs( we don’t have many pheasant here at home)- After many years of having...

To Retrieve or not to retrieve

So I picked up a GSP pup late last winter. I've been working "Ruby" on obedience, commands and finally on birds. At 9 months old, She is finding, pointing and holding her birds(planted homing pigeons). I think she is ready for me to shoot some birds (controlled) over her. She has a very strong...

    Charlie Rose

I'm trying to get a hold of Charlie Rose as I am trying to register a little female pup I picked from him late last winter. He hasn't responded to any of my messages-does anyone know if he is doing alright?

    quail research 2018 annual report(Texas)

Well , coming off of 2 great seasons to be following a pointing dog, this past season was quite frustrating to say the least. We just didn't have the birds in the rolling plains where I hunt. I went out one time(January) just to run dogs... I left the shotgun in the truck. It felt good to get...

    Day spent with the dogs

I've been working alot this season and haven't really had much opportunities in the field to bird hunt. I finally got out with my brother and our gsp`s this week. Last spring, I acquired a property for birdhunting so we made the 4 1/2 hr ride the night before. We got in late so we decided to...

    Kansas bound

I've been working my tail off this year and haven`t had a chance to really run dogs on birds. I`m really wanting to get away. I`m contemplating on heading to Kansas probably second week of January. Am I crazy for wanting to go this late into the season?!! I really want to focus on pheasant but...

    Indian land

I've been putting in some time researching for this up-coming pheasant season . I've never been to SD, this will be my first trip. There's a lot to cover-very overwhelming. Has anyone hunted any indian land for pheasant/upland birds? Wondering if this is something I should consider. Any...

    Lilly's last horrah for 2016-2017

Yesterday was the last day of our quail season. I had a busy day Saturday , I could only go Sunday/the last day of the season. It's a 5 hour ride to the ranch. I couldn't get anyone to tag along for just a day....what we'll do to get on birds. I have a kid at work in his early 20's...
