I'm thinking I wished I had bought 300 acres in SD 20 years ago.

Excellent SD Pheasant Property for Sale

What's the 300 acres worth at the end of 20 years? How does that impact the cost per bird?

    First time Pheasant Trip SD

Every pheasant hunter should go to the NR SD opener at least once in their life. It is an experience similar to a Super Bowl or Daytona 500. I think I made the opener my first 3 trips. It can also be dangerous for hunters and especially dogs if the temperatures are in the 90s. My advice would...

Governor Noem writes about her hunting dog

Meant to hit the reply button. duh NOT the like button a D or R plays no role in the way I vote or pheasant hunt and, in my lifetime, has never significantly impacted my gun ownership.

Governor Noem writes about her hunting dog

I've got a lot of respect for your knowledge and views, but my opinion on this is different. If I had been a member of a hunting party and a puppy was turned loose without proper training and exposure to the hunting environment by my best friend, I wouldn't have been upset at the puppy. My...

Lets See Your Dogs..post some pic's

DOGS -- So - things are a little slow on the farm with all the rain and I spent some time looking at old SD hunting pictures. These pictures are just peaceful and reflect the emotions that require that I go back multiple times a year for something that I cannot fully explain to someone who...

    Tell SD What You Think!!

I read it, sent a comment. My only suggestion would be to have an annual NR license option for those over 65 years of age that hunt multiple weeks, maybe 1.5 times a 5-day license cost. Not very likely to be implemented. The rest of the report was way above my pay grade.

    Remember Poly Chokes?

My first shotgun that was truly mine was a bolt action Mossberg 12 ga with an adjustable choke. It worked. This would have been in the mid 60s. I primarily was hunting squirrels. I don't remember actually changing the choke setting much. I think it was called a poly-choke or select-a-choke and...

    Crate temperature monitor.

Just to be clear, my set up is not dangling or bouncing. Its zip tied to the truck bed and I do not believe there is any significant difference between the temperature in the dog box and the truck bed. The Govee also sends notification to my phone if the temps vary from the range set.

    Crate temperature monitor.

Not sure about max range. My dogs stay in my truck bed with a topper when in SD. I hang the govee in my truck bed so I can monitor the temp when traveling or I'm in the motel, so from parking lot close to the room to my cell phone in the room, at least 30 feet. It also works when I'm on the...

At what point do you retire your dog?

Thanks.... I'll write that down as I might not remember. (If only I can find where I wrote it down). Neither of those 2 reasons have yet occurred. Hope to make it a couple times next year. Happy New Year to all the UPH members and guests!!

    The truth about Prairie Storm

Couldn't find PS in TN. I stopped at the first Walmart in SD in November to get my license and found PS at $22 a box. Round numbers with tax that is one dollar per shell. Compared to everything else I spend to hunt pheasants cost of shells is not in my decision tree to decide if I go. I've...

    Losing confidence in dog

Training bird dogs is a lot like raising a child. Each one is different. The light doesn't always come on at a particular age or experience. Some kids are mature at 10, some at 40(maybe). Sometimes the light just comes on later for some.

    Hunting with a brittany dog

Just got back from a hunt in SD, hunted 4 straight days, 6 to 7 hours a day. 3 Brits, 2 ten-year-olds - one M, one F, 1 six-year-old M. I did usually have only 2 on the ground at the same time. Geriatric - no. They were tired at the end of the day as I was yes. But ready to go the next morning...
