Some Days Just Go Better Than Others

Thanks Matt. The farm that I love to hunt is prohibiting hunting on 1/1. I have other private permission, but it is bad this season. The cover is so limited. I evaluated a lot of public access yesterday. If I were a pheasant, I would not live there. It was real bad. I looked at 10 fields and I...

Some Days Just Go Better Than Others

So bad and sad. That's a 2 year drought. The birds have very few places to hide. I witnessed 100+ birds bust from a plumb thicket....and we were 250 yards from their location. Thanks. I should have whacked him on the first shot. I am glad that I composed myself on shot #2.

Some Days Just Go Better Than Others

Thanks for watching They have been seeing us coming since opening day. I love a challenge, but it has been difficult to get within shooting range this season.. I think that I am done for the season. See what happens.

Some Days Just Go Better Than Others

This trip was fantastic and it probably ends my season. I walked 8.9 miles in just over 6 hours, and executed on my only 3 opportunities of the day. We saw a lot of birds, but the vast majority of them spotted us before we could get close. Echo and Josey did really well in locating the only...

26 Miles of Walking Over 2.5 Days...& we Finally have Something to Show for It.

I am ready for a drink and sleep after my days. Sometimes it's an energy drink if I have 225 miles ahead of me after a 1-day trip.

26 Miles of Walking Over 2.5 Days...& we Finally have Something to Show for It.

I can't figure out where the birds are in warm weather....so I walk. If it's cold and snowy, I know where to look. My goal is to not walk a lot, but I end up doing that if I struggle to find birds.

26 Miles of Walking Over 2.5 Days...& we Finally have Something to Show for It.

Appreciate you watching. The fence mistake almost broke me. I always try to keep the dogs close when we cross a fence. I turned my back, Echo smelled birds, and she went after it. I can't believe that I was looking the other way. This season, I noticed that I am slow to identify a rooster that...

26 Miles of Walking Over 2.5 Days...& we Finally have Something to Show for It.

Thank you. I covered those miles over 2.5 days in the field. If I did that in a day at my age, I would expire. Colorado is accurate.

I am still not shooting well, but we are on the board this season. Marinating my birds now. I hope that everyone is having a better season than me.

    Trip 2 - Yuma - Yuck

Echo, Josey and I did a day trip to Yuma this week. -90% private - places where I have limited out in an hour (many times) -Weather was warm; 28 degrees to start, 56 degrees by noon -10.5 miles of walking -The dogs located 4 hens; we flushed another one at 60 yards -Echo got on a rooster that...

Not an Ideal Start to the Season

Good for you guys, Tom. Sounds perfect. I went to Yuma today. 90% private. 5 hens, 5 roosters. 4 roosters busted at 80 yards. I watched Echo track another one in a corner. The cover is so thin, I watched him run! He busted out at 60 yards. 10.5 miles of walking. 450 miles of driving. Never...

Not an Ideal Start to the Season

Agreed. The bird I hit in the back 1/3 looked like it was going down. Echo was in full sprint. When the bird crossed the CR, she held up. I was great with her decision....and I wanted that rooster.

Not an Ideal Start to the Season

Appreciate you watching. Spot on. 26 miles of walking with just a few opportunities. The shotgun issues and my lack of confidence in the O/U got in my head. I only post the truth....no matter how much it hurts. Good luck this season.

Not an Ideal Start to the Season

Appreciate you watching that mess. I walked 26 miles in 2 full days. Areas that were once loaded with cover and birds, had sparse cover and less birds. Eastern Colorado needs water. A lot of it.

Not an Ideal Start to the Season

It was hard to post this video. Just an epic failure on my part. I will be better the next time out. Observations (besides my crap shooting) -Drought has impacted Eastern Colorado -Farmers were forced to hay everything -There are birds but they're hard to get at -Josey is a reliable gun dog...
