Since it appears it could be next hunting season before I get my A5 20 I went and bought this 16 yesterday, shot quail with it yesterday afternoon and boy! It swings like a dream at just over 5lbs! Didn’t have a chance to clean the packing grease out but it didn’t have a problem one! I was shooting the Herters 1oz 7.5 shells.

They're really nice guns, so congrats! Someday I'll have to use mine more to get used to the weight (or lack thereof) & transition from old style to new. For the time being, though, I just can't convince myself that the new one feels quite as good.
I shoot both also, just something about a humpback that’s perfect for me, sight plane, balance and all that

I haven’t found a good classic one yet. I have a 1969 light Twelve. I’d like to find a nice 16 ga from around that time or earlier.

I have a 89 light 12 jap, it’s a pretty good shotty!

About 10 years ago, my wife bought me the best Christmas present I ever got--a 1972 vintage Belgian Browning Sweet 16, choked IC with vent rib. It came with the box and all paperwork. Wasn't unfired, but it looked like it. It's so nice that I hesitate to take it out to shoot it. I have a round-knob Sweet 16 from about 1968 that is choked mod and that one has killed a good amount of roosters. For year-in, year-out hard durability, you can't beat these guns.

I had this 1960 SweetSixteen with a 26" IC vent rib barrel. It's really in nice shape. I sold it to a friend and I know it's just stting in his gun case. I could see it he would be interested in letting it go if you are interested.

If you end up experiencing cycling problems early on, make sure to clean the piss out of it and re oil. When I got my Sweet 16, I cleaned it before shooting and it wasn't cycling. Gave it an even deeper cleaning again and I haven't had a FTE since.

With the weight of those around 5 pounds, that might be perfect to get my petite daughter into hunting....maybe even her daughters...in a couple more years. The 5 rounds of ammo must almost double the weight. I shouldn't cracked your pecans on these ultra light weights guns, I might need one in a few years to finish-out my hunting career. They can keep you in the field, as long as your legs still work. That abrupt hump takes a little getting used to, it can't help the aerodynamics. 😉 My cousin has one in a 16 and he seems to like it. I will try to keep-on with my trim Remington Premier 11-87 12 gauge. Maybe I will win something like this at our PF banquet this saturday!

One thing to consider, light weight means more recoil. As far as the sight plane all I shoot is A5s so it’s all the same to me!

Stick with the oldie as long as you can, tough to improve on near perfection.

The ones made in the 50s are the best. I feel fortunate to own one. 28 in, fixed full choke.

Yesterday I shot skeet with a guy who had a 1959 12 gauge Auto-5, 26" plain barrel, the gun had been used hard with lots of blue wear and some stock dings. It was choked IC and it was still hammering targets to dust. Did my soul good to see it.
