Hey jim,
We just started chopping corn silage today, I have good news. Saw 3 different groups of hens with young birds, about 6-8 to the bunch. One bunch of grouse, hen with 4 youngs( that's a guess flushed in front of the chopper). And a huge covey of partridge, probally 30 birds total. All of this is one corn field of 75 acres less than 2 miles from my door. With the drought our insurance man has us leaving 4 rows approx 500 ft long for every 40 acres. The distance of these will depend on the shape of the field. The edges are 10 foot or so around the boundry for us to get semis around.
