    Corn food plots and cover

I planted corn this year for the first time and sprayed it twice. The corn is growing great, but I'm starting to think that perhaps I shouldn't have sprayed the second time. Under the canopy is largely bare now. I could have kept it "weedy corn" instead, offering more cover/seeds/bugs/etc and...

Ever leave a food plot fallow?

I've often seen mention in publications for improving pheasant habitat to leave 1/2 the acreage of a food plot fallow each year, essentially flip-flopping what is planted. That there is some benefit for the birds from the annual weeds that result, from the bugs being attracted to the decay of...

    2011 Habitat Photos

Seems like this section has been slow lately - anyone working on habitat projects? If so, feel free to share some photos here. Despite a ridiculously rainy spring delaying planting ... and then a long drought that was much earlier than we typically see in MI, my pheasant food source might...

    kindness

Headed hunting this morning. But had to share something. This is why the sport of hunting will never die! I was at walmart picking up shells and a new orange hat. After getting quite frusterated by the lack of service and merchandice on the shelves, of course they had no hats! As I'm grumbeling...

What to rotate with Egyptian Wheat?

So I really like how the egyptian wheat I planted turned out. I know that planting it every year isn't a good idea and am planning to rotate 1-2 acres between egyptian wheat and something else. The question is, what would be best to rotate it with?

Pheasants Enjoying Food Plot Too Soon!

While I had the pleasure of watching a rooster right behind the house this morning, I am worried once the majority of the seed starts germinating that I might be in trouble if they are hanging around too much. I don't have the equipment to put in larger plots (~1.4 acres total divided up in...

    Grit Station?

I've been considering putting out something homemade during the winter to hold grit for the pheasants and keep it snow-free. My thought was that by doing this they wouldn't have to be out in the roads during winter when snow is covering everything else. Has anyone done this? Results?
