New pup or adult dog?

I have spent pleanty of money with pro's training my dogs. I like the idea of a 2-3 yr old trained dog thats ready to hunt. 2-5 K is still a great value for an avid hunter considering thats only about $500 a year for a hobby. Some folks spend more than that on vices.
That's OK by me too. We are not talking "STARTED" dog which nobody has a definite definition for and who is going to "FINISH" it? 2-5 could be cheap. The last question is does the dog get out of the kennel more than few days during hunting season.

I had to laugh it reminds me of city people with 4 wheel drives. Good points. Pups are fun if you know how to train them to the level you desire and if you are buying an older dog evaluate it to assure it is at the level you want with the right temperment. Uncle Buck has a point everyone has their own idea of what started and finished dogs mean. Since I train my own, hunt all season, and field trial off season, I don't beleive my dogs will ever be finished, and it's anyone's guess what started means. One thing for sure is nothing is better than hunting over a good dog of any sporting breed.
