Since I kinda hijacked FC's thread, I stated I would post a thread on this.
If you're wanting to build your own dog house, here's a good blue print. If you got any further questions, you can post them here or PM if you prefer.
This is the ORIGINAL blue print but I found it to be too small for my dog. It would be better fit for a smaller dog such as brittany or smaller. It's possible for a lab that isn't over knee high height.
Floor: both panels are 29 1/4 x 41 1/4
Roof: both panels are 36 x 48
front: outside panel is 30 x 42; inside panel is 27 1/2 x 37 1/2
Door: you'll need to cut a door apprx 12 x 18 or bigger at your preference
Back: outside panel 24 x 42; inside panel is 22 x 37 1/2
Sides: side panels are trapezoids, you'll need to slope your roof to drain off water. 29 3/4 wide with a height varying 24 to 30 across the top edge. Inside panel are also 29 3/4 wide, with heights varying from 22 to 27 1/2 across the top edge.
That is the blue print i got and directions. However knowing my GSP will be taller than my keecaps, I built it 4-6 inches bigger.
FLOOR: you can see how I insulated it.
BACK WALL: now keep in mind. you'll need a longer demention on the back so you can drill screws to hold the wall up. you can measure the bottom up to your height desire and then measure the top floor wood to your height desire.
SIDES: all walls up and should look like this when youre done with all the wood work and insulations.
This wall is to seperate the room. This way you can keep heat in one room for the dog for winter time. i did not insulate the inside wall however its up to you if you want to do such thing.
ROOF: make sure you can open and shut the roof. use three hinges and not two. Its pretty heavy when you get the frame on and my roof is NOT insulated. I will take a picture of the roof and.. sadly, finished purple house. (Don't look at me, I tried fighting it, but I lost)
Now you should have ONE happy dog.
When designing doghouses, its the height and length of the dog that matters, and not the weight.
My doghouse is propped up on a pallet to keep from the water coming in and also keeps my floor from rotting from wet ground.
