Maybe confusing limit, and quota with our old friend from Vietnam, "body count". Heres a thought, maybe out there, but maybe not that far. Humane Society gets wind of these type of things, decides to sue the state, because they currently have no way to effectivly enforce party hunting laws, which constitutes unfair pressure on the resource, forces a closure to the season, till the state proves to the court that the problem is rectified. No doubt at huge expense and regulations sure to crimp the style of the regular hunter. Britain ended fox hunting, which has been an institution for hundreds of years. Sure glad we demonstrate responsiblity in policing ourselves.

Good thing we dont have to worry ourselves with things like group limits hah c-dad.
Only if they start to limit shots fired.

In Illinois it is illegal to party hunt. When my group of 4 gets pheasants flushed by my dog usually the closest hunter shoots and the dog retrieves it back to ME. I handle every bird shot by every member of the group. Everybody carries their own birds as the conservation police count individual limits - I can't carry your 2 birds and my 2 birds without it being a violation.
If the CO wants to know who shot what - we only say we shot our own.
(after a person has their limit I still want them to be able to knock down MY bird if it gets up on THEIR side of the trees where I don't have a shot at it. My friends say the same about their birds and I still have to go because I'm the guy with the only dog)

NOT even a question, Limit means limit, I quit the feild and head to the truck.
I had this happen to are group opening day Dove hunting. Are group followed the regs to the letter. One person in are group envited his dad, who envited others that showed up, more people no problem right. Big wrong These people Didnt have a required stamp, and shot way more than there limit. I had limited out and sitting in my truck waiting in the truck, for the group to return. The guys dad returned Pissed off to the His truck to retrieve his license. He and the rest of the group returned about an hour later.
Game and fish sent him back for his license. The net total. Are group no Violations His dads group, Four shooting over the limit, Three not in posession of state migratory bird stamp. 7 sighted for party hunting.
Results after court. Four fined at 1000 a pop. 2 people fined 1000 a pop for twice the legal limit lose of hunting privileges for two years. Three fined 450 for no bird stamp( the stamp Cost 4.50) The Judge dismissed the party hunting charge b/c " you Edit Edit where clearly over the legal limit."
I don't know, just doesnt seem smart to me.

Some of the defenses offered by people for party hunting, hunting by use of a motorized conveyance, etc. never cease to amaze me, embarass me, make we wonder what we are coming to. Instead of monikers such as "pro", "guru" and "diehard", maybe "game hog", "rationalizer", "legal but unethical", "morally challenged". Each comment supporting chasing deer with trucks, or party hunting because everybody else does, would raise your rank. if my suggestions offend you.... it's merely because you resemble the remark.

Ok, to throw my 2c in... I seem to be a "quick draw" and usually get the most birds in my group. When I get close/at my limit, I tend to go next to a kid if there is one and just back him/her up on a miss/cripple. So I still hunt, but just as mop up duty.
However... so if there are 10 guys hunting, 3 bird limit. You shoot 21... one guy has to stop carrying a gun, right? By the time you had 29, only one guy could be carrying a gun. (Ok, without lying and saying you were hunting rabbits with your gun or something) Is that how big parties do it? Let me know... I am really curious.

What fun is it to "quick draw" on pheasants? They are the easiest game bird to hit. The sport is in the finding & producing them for a shot. At the flush, I expect the guys I hunt w/ to shoot in their own fields of fire. If it goes to the left, the guy to the left gets 1st shot & so on. This is not only safer but it keeps people from thinking they've got to shoot so quickly that they destroy the game for the table.
Some birds you've got to be quick on (grouse, woodcock, bobwhite) but you should be able to let a pheasant get out where your pattern opens up a bit & still be confident of a kill.

Since im in Minnesota we party hunt. There has been days when I only shoot 1 and there is days where I shoot 5 or 6. I hunt with the same people everytime we go out. However If someone asked me not to shoot if I had my limit I would not have a problem with that.
I also do a lot of waterfowl hunting and we keep track of what birds we shoot. If some shoots there limit they are done.
If i lived or when I hunt in different states I follow those rules. Follow the law or pay the fine when you get caught.
To me hunting is more that shooting a limit if all we saw where hens one day but my dog did good thats all I need.

We're from different worlds
I've been holding off for days in responding again to this line of posts. My initial reaction to some of the comments made here was being offended at being considered a slob hunter, lacking ethics and morals, but upon reflection, I think we may just come from different worlds and those of you casting aspersion need to consider that.
I'm 52 years old, have been buying licenses and hunting birds since I was 12. In all of those years, I've paid to hunt only 3 times, twice at hunt clubs where birds were planted for us [business related outings] and this year's hunt in So Dak where we paid $X per guy to rent a farmhouse and hunt private, leased land. During all of those years and hunting with dozens of different individuals, I've never, ever hunted with anyone who believed you shot your limit, and your limit only. With one or two exceptions, all of those people were safe, considerate hunters who I believe acted admirably in the field.
When we were kids hunting pheasants in SE WI, a good Saturday morning was 2-3 roosters for 3-4 of us. Even 1 rooster made for a good morning. So limits were never an issue. I've shot limits of grouse and woodcock, but never pheasants until I started going to So Dak a few years back. On those trips west, we try to get everyone on birds and it's harder for those who don't have dogs. I have setters and so get a lot of close in shooting over points. If a bird flushes out of my shooting lane, I'm letting it go to the guys flanking me. I've also tried to get others in on points to get them shooting. I'm not in the field seeing it as a contest for who can kill the most. To me those group hunts are a team sport, with the team working towards the enjoyment and successful hunt for all.
I guess I get that from the hunting I've experienced for most of my life. Expectations of a Saturday morning pheasant hunt being a couple birds. Grouse are a wily bird that tend to run, put some cover between themselves and prey before exploding out. My most effective grouse hunts are with one other hunter, who knows how the pointing dog works and who knows my expectations. Dog on point, seeing the blocking cover up wind of the dog where the bird is likely to be, each guy making a pincer movement around the cover, with one likely to get a shot at the escaping bird. Good team work between dog and hunters equals birds in the bag.
Considering all of the hunting I've done over the years, no offense, but I'd rather be hunting with the guys I've hunted with in the past and am glad I'm not hunting with some of you.
