Gawd, hope mine never does the math... especially if she starts thinking about cost of dog, cost of training dog, cost of vet care for dog, cost of guns, etc, etc. I reckon I'm into each bird for $100 or more, honestly.

Then again, the more I hunt, the more I shoot, the better that average looks, right???

Guns don't count because they are "an investment". Actually the increase in expected value should be subtracted from the cost when calculating the cost per bird. That's my argument and I'm sticking to it.

Another factor to consider when talking to the spouse is that the more days you hunt the less it costs per bird, especially if fixed costs are high. Just saying....

Coppheasanthunter, what part of state do you hunt? My drive is about 680 miles way and hunt around Larned.

My doctor informed me several years ago that I have high cholesterol. Said I needed to change my diet. I asked "wild game", and he said sure. I take that as a prescription. Redfish and pheasant! Just got back from the bay with 5 reds in the cooler. Would have been pretty cheap per red, however I broke a fly line and had to replace ($75 + tax) and a speeding ticket ($220). Those fish are now about $100 apiece. Also through in the last trip to the bay and got skunked on keepers, so about $145.77 per red. That is some fine dining on the back porch.
