Come on, no hero opener day pics posted yet???

Pretty normal opener for us. Got to our public spot about an hour and 1/2 early but 945 another truck pulled up 50 yards away and got ready to go😀. Not a big deal plenty of room for all. We walked about 100 yds in and turned around as was getting pretty crowded. One boy shot three by 1010! Second boy and myself seen none. Went to a couple small pieces and seen a few but no shots. Fourth piece in the rain, got towards the back and could pick your shots. Seen over fifty birds with some great dog work. ¹

Sunday was warmer with less wind, sunny all day, highs in mid-60’s…took some big breaks midday, finished up in the golden hour. Our 3rd guy, dogless, did some bigtime missing…no biggy…hunted longer to finish. Lots of corn standing. Birds seem decent to good…dogs are all holding up pretty well…9 month old doing good!!!!

Well, Ace & I have so far confined ourselves to a pretty small area in southeast SD (20 sq miles). All public. Plenty of standing corn still (maybe 25-30% done harvesting in this area??). I'm VERY excited by the numbers of pheasants we're seeing this early on. And in 4 hunts, only a handful of real young ones, leading me to believe early nesting/brooding conditions were really good. I think we're in for a fabulous season. Here's a picture from yesterday.

Shooting a king rooster like that helps atone for many of your past sins. You no longer need to drive to Saskatchewan and the Indian memorial.

Oddly, I haven't shot of those yet this season, only because I haven't had the chance. But if/when I do, Tinkertown is as far as I'm going. Leave an ear of corn & a can of PBR at the Codington Pheasant God's feet & call it good.
