What’s the best food?

I don't know what others look at when considering one dog food over another but one thing I strongly consider is kcal per cup because my Vizsla won't eat a lot of food in volume. FWIW, I did a comparison before I moved my dogs to Nutrisource.

PPP chicken and & rice has 488 kcal per cup
PPP Salmon & Rice 30/20 has 534 kcal per cup. I fed this for a while before moving my dogs to Inukshuk. My male Vizsla had issues with it.
Inukshuk 30/25 has 578 kcal per cup. I liked it. My Vizsla didn't.
Nutrisource Performance has 488 kcal per cup. Vizsla approved.
Extreme Dog Fuel 30/20 has 485 kcal per cup
Valupak 30/20 has 492 kcal per cup

Inukshuk has a lot more calories per cup than most and most feed less because of it. Outside of that, most performance dog food are very close in calories per cup and can be similar in ingredients and nutrition but there can be a rather large difference in price per bag or in availability.

Victor Hi Pro Plus(not listed) is pretty popular but only has 406 kcal per cup. Next Level is similar. There are a bunch of others you can buy at the grocery store than have less than 400 kcal per cup. I haven't really considered feeding them....not because they are bad...I just prefer to feed higher calorie/fat food. 450 kcal per cup and 20% fat was sort of my minimum for consideration.
I fed my previous Brittany almost exclusively Nutrisource and she did verry well on it. Started my current Britt on Nutrisource but she had a gassy stomack from it so I went back to PPP. All the extra fat and calories are fine if your dog is getting enough exercise but can lead to weight gain especially in spayed females. That's why with both my spayed female Brittanys I had to back off to a 26/16 formula in both Nutrisource and PPP.

It leads to weight gain if you feed too much. My female is spayed and 11 years old. You just have to cut back on the amounts if you feed a higher protein and fat food.

I have a soon to be 13 year old spayed female Vizsla at home and I feed her the Nutrisource Lamb & Rice. It's a 24/13 formula and she gets 2 cups a day. It has worked well for her. I've been feeding my male Vizsla the same formula while he has been in his crate for the heartworm treatment. He isn't allowed to exercise and I didn't want him putting on too much weight. He will be done with all of that on the 23rd and I'm going to start switching him back to the Performace 30/20 when he can start running and hunting.
