Yes we do have a small resident population; however, most of the birds are migratory & travel from areas live Scandinavia, Russia, baltics etc. so our woodcock season is very dependant on the weather is those countries; if they get a spell of cold weather around the end of November full moon, then we will get a lot of birds.

Weather here plays a big factor too. When they arrive in this country if the weather is mild they will head for high ground, so if we get some frost it will push them to lower ground which is easier to hunt. Also, if the birds are travelling into a head wind when they migrate a lot of them can get exhausted & perish in the sea.
